The user does not care if a driver is open source unless the user just so happens to be a coder.
Users do care if the driver is open source or not, simply because binary only drivers might not fit newer (or custom) kernels. (Unless I'm mistaken that is).
it doesn't make a lot of sense to power a lightsail by shooting your laser through a planetary atmosphere. You'll want to put it on the Moon
Does anyone remember yesterday's story about Helium on the moon in coordination with this?
With a large energy source and no atmosphere, the moon would be a nice origin for the beam to come from. A permanent problem would be the moon's rotation around the Earth, unless relays are put in orbit around Earth. (leaving aside the "fusion technology that we don't have" problem)
A question rises to my mind though, is the thing only a way to push something in a direction or can it also pull it?
True, but if you put the laser/microwave beam on, say, Earth and only relay it with orbital mirrors, it can be used depsite the energy loss.
You don't have to use crafts to provide energy to other crafts because if the crafts were able to provide energy, why wouldn't they propel themselves in the first place?
Humans are far more adaptable and creative than any other species, and have spread across the globe, altering environments to suit our immediate needs...
Ants have done likewise, the only difference is that they don't modify the environments. If I remember well, there are even ants around the north pole so I guess your 'far more adaptable than any other species' is untrue...
There's no valid translation for the french word for the place where cheese is "created" but cheese farm. The guy's activity consists in working in a cheese factory but due to the artinsanal making of the cheese, it's better called a farm. You can find more information about the creation process of that kind of cheese there (it's a commercial site in french only, sorry):Roquefort-papillon.com
Briefly: the sheeps are milked, the milk is "made sour", cut in slices, the penicilium roqueforti(a "mushroom") is mixed with the cheese, the cheese is then wet and salted then put in caves during 5 months.
However if you can download and make your own cd in less than an hour, why drive to the store to buy it?
Why would you buy any software at all? I mean by this that you can get almost every single piece of software "for free" on warez sites or CDs. That's illegal, ok, but does that prevent a lot of people from getting the stuff?
Furthermore, under the GPL, nothing prevents you from copying the data from a friend/colleage/whatever's CD, then why bother going to the store?
I personally buy software (be it free or not) to encourage people to keep doing the stuff I like. As simple as that.
The GPL is a license that you don't have to physically sign. If it loses on that basis[snip]Then a lot of things would need to be modified, have you thought about all those "click if you agree" type of agreements? Or maybe are they unrelated? I don't know...
On the other hand, if you can browse the web on what could pass on the street for expensive sunglasses - and you can use them as normal sunglasses when not browsing
That would probably ruin any attempt to make statistics on the number of blind people waiting for the bus at hour X...

With all these modules, they're probably trying to build a new lego, only much bigger.
:)
Imagine all the things we can create with this new lego: GIANT SPACE ROBOTS!!!
Looks like Goldorak is going to come back
