  1. Re:How much will they cost? on Dawn Of The Diamond Age? · · Score: 2

That's for natural diamonds (those you see in rings and such). These new diamond-chips would use (as stated in the article) the synthetic process that is used to make the cheap industrial-grade diamonds. Your facts are still correct, though.

Well, that would be a good comment, but... the AP tests are for high school students.
And for everyone complaining about the speed of Java, remember the tests are done with paper & pencil.
I'd also like to add Washington University to the list of schools that teaches Java

    PS2 is what, $300?
You can build yourself a linux box for what, $300 (I'm sure someone's built one for even less)
Given that the PS2's price is subsidized, I'd say we're already there...

  4. Re:Jon why do you do things like this.. on Up, Up, Down, Down: Part Three · · Score: 1

No, actually, Jon is right. He said the average kid plays for 49 minutes a day. Now unless every kid plays for exactly 49 minutes, for it to be an average some have to play more, and some have to play less (or not at all). He just didn't say the second part because most people understand averages. I assume this was just a mental pause, I'm not trying to flame here.

On a seperate note, those surveys are highly inaccurate, they ask a bunch of 8-year olds How many hours a day do you play video games? Then they give them choices like 0, 1, 2, 3, 4... etc. I bet you most kids aren't thinking farther back than last night or the week before.

  5. Remember the Challenger on Nattering Nabobs Of NASA Negativity · · Score: 1

This sounds like the same set of pressures for meeting external deadlines (the media, the public, Reagan) rather than making sure everything works. It's a little bit more difficult to "Service Pack" the space station than the public might think.

  6. Hoverboard tweaking on Quickies, Coast to Coast · · Score: 1

Alright, I'm putting the challenge out: who can be the first to get the hoverboard to run Linux or add some geek-centric feature? How about about a hoverboard-cam? You'd need a web cam, a system small enough to fit on that, and some method of transmitting. Bonus points if it can receive and display as well.
