Another factor to take into consideration are the people who don't have a concept of speed variation in computer. A computer is a computer to them...a 486 is just as good as a Pentium 800, right? I mean, it's a computer, it can do anything!
this issue is something I've been fuming about ever since Columbine actually happened. I'm a 17 year old senior right now, a sophomore when the Columbine shootings occurred. Basically, I'm tired of dumbass politicians trying to decide what's best for ME. I know that this horse has been beaten repeatedly, but I don't see many of the actual minors standing up about it.
Crap like this is really going to sway my opinions on the two major parties when I actually get to the age to vote. Screw Republican and Democratic. They'd better have a damn good platform and views before I even think about voting for one of them now (a good handle on the English language could help, Dubya). Bush comes across as a rich daddy's boy, and from seeing what teenagers like that act like, this guy's probably a major prick. The internet causes corruption? F that. We'd have a few million teenagers wigging out every week and deciding to blast away their fellow students if that was the case.
I've never paid much attention to the presidential runs before this year, because I haven't cared. Now that I see the corruption that can be involved in this crap, I can't wait to get my ballot in...and it ain't gonna be Republicans or Democrats.
I remember when I was hooked on X-Com Apocalypse once. When I started involuntarily getting confused about people in real life moving around when they shouldn't have movement points left, I stopped playing.
Amen to that. I'm currently 16 years old, and have had summer jobs for the past two years. At first, I hated the fact that my father made me keep $100 dollars per paycheck in the bank. No matter what. I couldn't touch it.
It turned out to be the smartest thing he's made me do. I eventually saved up enough money to buy myself a car (something I never would have gotten otherwise), and help out with my car insurance as much as I can.
If nothing else, it proved that saving money can lead to good things, and teenagers need to learn rules such as that (grins at his brand new monster computer;)
After the announcement of the federal court ruling, the number of unique visitors to Napster rose by 71 percent from 443,000 to 758,000, according to statistics compiled by Nielsen Net Ratings.
...
Prior to the Napster decision, Gnutella's primary Web site generally received 1,800 hits per hour and 30,000 hits for the day, according to Karen Lim of WeGo, which serves as a portal provider for Gnutella.
But shortly after the decision was announced on Wednesday, the site was receiving 72,000 hits per hour and finished the day with 1.6 million hits.
I bet some RIAA execs are beating themselves on the head right about now. -
I'd like to see the expressions on RIAA exec's faces if CD sales showed a downward trend after Napster's fall, due to boycott or lack of musical promotion. Whoops.
Sheep? Crap? Napster is the best mp3 search method, simply because of its ease of use and amazingly huge database. What else matters in such things? I would rather load up Napster, type in a song, and get dozens of results from different servers with different connections than attempt to find an album via ftp or mirc, with no real guarantee that I can get into the server or can be first in a stupid queue. Napster does its job, which is to offer a huge, updated, easily accessible database of music.
I don't think that the music industry is quite getting a grasp on the "new-age" spending. I'm starting to wonder if they want me to buy a one-time, $18 CD because I heard one song on the radio (what usually happened before I had Napster), or hear a song on the radio, go home, download some other songs, become an avid fan, spend $30 on a concert ticket, $20 on a t-shirt, and whatever else I feel like doing, EVERYTIME THEY COME TO TOWN. (, for me:) I'm not saying what I do is right (I haven't bought a CD in ages, and I just ordered my Mptrip portable MP3-ROM player today:), but they should take the new distribution for all it's worth. It's more of a help than a hassle.

As long as it doesn't go in my right hand or forehead, I think I'll be OK.
