ok I stand corrected about the modems, however previously (when I was in the market for a cable modem about a year ago) they wernt DOCSIS modems.
As far as the gateway is concerned you can run a gateway server but the Telstra's contract specifically forbids you from setting up a gateway and connecting several machines. This DOESNT mean that it wont work it just means the policy says you cannot.
As to the download limits. On optus you can get about 5-600mb per day without getting kicked...telstra now 100mb. Per month 15gig optus, telstra 3gig. Teltra capped speed, optus uncapped. I can do 100mb a day without even downloading my pr0n. Look at the facts stupid. Not my fault you are on a server that is capped and bandwidth limited...sucked in...long live optus.
In my research group at uni, the main question I get asked is "how the #$%# do I stop word/excell from turning peoples names into hyperlinks" in addition to the many features that people ask me to turn off. So why would people want their thesis/application letter/shopping list popping up little links to MS-Milk services or someshit. When will Ms realise people only want a word processor to write documents not to organise their life.
We are a chemistry group (not computers)so although they are smart people their not necessarily good coputer people so if they find these things annoying then how does the general population feel about these "features"
Most of the computers run Office 97 because although the more upto date office programs (2000 etc) might be better they also have so many "features" that it pisses everyone off enough that they want 97 reinstalled.
I think M$ tend to add these features until people are convinced that they really do want them....Your minds are under our controle
