  1. Proven companies on On the Time Preference for Information... · · Score: 1
I guess at the same time if people on stuck with big companies we would all run MS products on a IBM machine and the only way anyone would connect to the Internet would be through Compuserv or Prodigy. (Think where the Internet would be) I guess to take it even further nobody would embrace new technology. I guess we would still use 8-tracks and no car would be made of fiber glass.

There would be no Linux users and nobody would build their own machines. Nobody would drive Saturn, they would all drive big ol' Fords.

  2. But my neighbor has better!!! on On the Time Preference for Information... · · Score: 3

You know I can't tell the difference between copper and gold connectors. I also can't tell the difference between CX and DX options on a Honda Civic. But the fact remains that I need the DX because my neighbor has a CX and I need the gold because my friend has copper.

If they make it better, well we all know that somebody will pay for it. If for nothing else but to out do someone.

  3. Microsoft Field on Coca-Cola Loses Fizz To Microsoft · · Score: 1

If it weren't for the whole anti-trust thing Microsoft would have had to start sponser more to get the same name brand recognition as Coke. Can you imagine the likes of Microsoft Field instead of Fed-Ex Field or instead of the Visa Triple Crown Challenge the Microsoft Challenge. I don't see the likes of Geeks being that involved in that sort of thing.
Perhaps a Linux group could sponser a Beowolf Challenge or something;)

  4. If the company survives is a bet on On the Time Preference for Information... · · Score: 3

With any product if the company survives to continue to support the product you purchased is a bet. Of course in the past it has been a fairly safe bet. You don't expect Ford to go under. However, with the economy now and the businesses that do fold and the ones the currently are worth so much, but don't actually provide a service the bet is more risky. Buying something from a start-up with little to no business plan can be risky. What if rather than being bought out they just fold? I don't have a solution for the support, but with the way things have changed there is a need. When my computer broke six months into warrenty I was able to take it back and get a new one. If that support didn't exist I would have been out a mother board. Not a comfortable feeling.

  5. Many games are for adults!!! on Indianapolis Restricts Display Of Violent Games · · Score: 1

When are people going to realize that many video games are made for adults. Not for twelve year olds, so keeping the kids away from the games makes perfect sense to me. After all we don't let kids into R rated movies, why would be let them play the equal in a video game? "15% of games made are rated for teen or mature, but they account for 65% of the sales." Was a statistic on CNN about violent games. This must say something about our culture, because I'm sure that most adults aren't the ones buying those games. As teens continue to shoot each other and commit other violent crimes we need to look at our culture. I'm not saying that video games are responsibile, but they need to be looked at as a contributing factor.

Actually it is too bad that, the government has taken that role. Frankly if they don't want people gambling online they should probably take down the auctions too. After all isn't it sort of a gamble that you get exactly what you want? Or that the person on the other end isn't upping their bid.

Not, you. I understand the problem of getting spamed just by one person using my address. It was incrediably annoying. My brother was signing up for porn accounts and using my e-mail. Once or twice my machine crashed when I tried to get my e-mail because of the amount of data. At least I knew who it was and could kick his ass.

  22. Re:Get filtering on Who Reads Your @nospam Mail? · · Score: 1

What I fail to see as the problem is the fact that you can give out a completely annoying fake address. I have free addresses that I send my mail to. Others use address such as Bill@Microsoft.com or Steve@aol.com. Of course people probably have those e-mail addresses and are completely annoyed at the large amount of e-mail they get that isn't for them. I suppose that the accounts have become inactive. The point is you can make up an address and not worry about the spam.
