  1. 3D Tic-Tac-Toe on Boredom Chasers? · · Score: 1

    If you have another player, or you're able to play two player games by yourself, 3D Tic-Tac_Toe is a relatively entertaining game. Increase it from a 3x3x3 grid to a 5x5x3 grid and you'll be busy for a while.

  2. My solution... on Is Storage Capacity Outstriping Backup Capability? · · Score: 1

    The backup solution I use for my work machines is this:

    Build PC with 3+ partitions (c:=system d:=apps e:=data f:=MP3/misc g:=games)

    I make sure that c: is a relatively small partition (2GB or less). I run Norton Ghost to make an image of the C drive. Typically, the C image will fit onto a CD. I do the same with the D drive, assuming it's not too big. E I just burn straight onto a CD, F I mostly have on CD already, so I just burn the additions every 600MB or so. G I don't worry about.

    In the event of a disaster, I just use the C and D images to restore those two partitions, and start copying CDs to restore the others.

  4. Virgin Webplayer on Enabling the "Disabled" Card Interfaces? · · Score: 2

    A lot of us who have Virgin Webplayers have experimented with this type of thing. There are lots of connectors on board that are missing, but the solder pads are there for. Thus far its been mixed success.

    For example, there are chips missing to make a proper serial port out of the missing header. Same situation with VGA, but we were able to get around that. However, I've heard of people successfully adding a floppy drive connector, a keyboard connector (a pin needed to be cut on one of the ICs to make it work), etc. Your success will vary from board to board.

    I think this was already said, but if you have a board that has the features you want to compare to the board with the missing features, you'll be able to figure out what's missing.

  5. What // dimension are you from? on Star Wars Most Violent Movie Ever? · · Score: 1

    Lets see, with Gore and Clinton we had the V-chip, Tipper censoring music artists, and so forth. Now granted, there are a lot of things out there in the media that I morally object to. Its hard sometimes to determine where artistic expression ends and the gratuitous, immoral, etc. begins. However, our country does give us the freedom to determine that line for ourselves. On the other hand, you have to keep in mind that there are some things that just shouldn't be out there for public consumption, where its unavoidable, such as, say, 50' billboards advertising some porn movie, with one of the hottest scenes in living color. There are those of us who do not want to have to see that, or want our children to see that. There should be standards of decency for things that are "out in public" such as billboards, but parents are responsible for controlling their children. Does someone have a link to the Ashcroft proposal that the poster mentioned? I haven't seen it yet, but I suspect that the possibility of censoring star wars is a gross exagerration, and hopefully just a sick april fools prank. I think our existing ratings system is OK. Maybe not perfect, but it does the job. One more thing... as far as RvD goes, even if this does constitute an attack on the first, at least the Rep's have never gone after the second!

  6. Don't forget the webplayer on Whatever Happened To The Thin X11 Terminals? · · Score: 1

    The Virgin Webplayer is a great little piece of hardware. It's fanless, has a 10" 800x600 LCD display, and has a 48MB Disk On Chip (DOC) to boot off of. 200MHz, x86 compatible, with 64MB ram. Do a search here on slashdot for some links, and also check out the archives of the egroups groups webplayer and webplayer-coop.

  7. Re:The meteor link is broken. on Surround Sound Quickies · · Score: 1

    Grrr.... I finally get something posted on slashdot and they wait so long to post it that the link dies. =( I couldn't find it anywhere else on the site; they must've pulled it. The basic jist of it is this guy's car got hit by a meteorite. There was a fist sized hole in his window, with the glass melted around it. The rock then went through the dash, again melting the plastic around the hole. (I'm surprised it didn't catch fire). The intereor of the car was coated with fine granules of glass which was pulverized in the impact. The owner of the car said that he was going to try to get it fixed because "[the car] is the kind that will never die, short of getting hit by a meteor" (paraphrased from memory). Don't the posters check their links before they post? And why does my submission show as being rejected even though its being used?

  8. File for unemployment... on Can Companies Rescind A Job Offer? · · Score: 1

    If you were officially hired and this counts as a terminiation, due to no fault of yours, you can file for unemployment. At least then you can be taking money from them until you go through the resume/interview/repeat process again. I imagine this is quite the inconvenience as you no doubt rejected any other offers after you accepted this one... Everything depends on the paperwork, though, the wording, the signatures, etc... If it looks like you really were hired, get them for the unemployment. Even if you don't need the cash, you can teach them a lesson.
