While I agree that this is a bad move on Apple's part, I'd just like to take a moment to point out the fact that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
They overcharge their customers for what is otherwise standard equipment that you can get for half the price on the PC side
That's completely false.
Let's take the top-of-the-line Power Mac G4.
Off the shelf you get:
your big word of the day, moot, means to discuss or debate

Your argument, like all the others in this thread, is based on the assumption that we know and understand mathematics as a whole, that we are 100% correct about every aspect we think we understand, and that we haven't missed anything.
I realize this might come as a shock to some people, but we're just scratching the surface.
I don't disagree that we can't find a a real number "x" such that x^2 If I'm wrong, then there is no reason to continue studying math...we already know everything there is to know on the subject.
It has come to my attention that there is an article in this forum which has been incorrectly attributed to me. The forger even went so far as to include a PGP signature with the post.
Unfortunately, the PGP signature is meaningless in this situation, as it has simply been pasted in place from an email I previously sent. The smoking gun is in the line of dashes directly following the words 'END PGP SIGNATURE'. There are five dashes, followed by a single space, the two more dashes, another space, then the remainder of the dashes.

jump on a guy and try to defame him by choosing a name easily confused for his and trolling
What the fuck are you talking about? If anything, I was proving his point: People jumped in his shit immediately upon reading his nic. Sig11 knew that, and complained about it on more than one occasion. My registering this account was simply an experiment to see if his claims had any validity. They did. It didn't matter what he said, the moderators threw points (negative and positive) at him like nobody else on Slashdot.
you admittedly get on discussions just to troll
You're totallyproving my point.
I speak my mind. If you don't like what I have to say, that's tough shit. I treat this forum like I treat the real world. If I feel like saying something stupid, I say it. Sometimes I might be trying to be funny - other times, just stupid.
People who think it's funny to piss in the community well just disgust me.
This particular community well has a filtration system. It's called the comment threshold. If you want to eliminate the stupid comments, raise your fucking threshold.
Not that people like you give a damn about anyone else's enjoyment of Slashdot but your own.
Raise your threshold, you snivelling shit. You're absolutely right. I don't give a rat's ass whether you enjoy Slashdot. You know what? It's not my problem, it's yours.
I registered this account to see if I would be automatically flamed/modded down by people who mistook me for Signal 11. Guess what? I am. Constantly.
Even after Sig11 packed up & moved on, I still get the same shit. So, I decided to keep using this account. I figure those of you who judge me by my nic are only making yourselves look stupid, and I'll gladly help you do it.
I post whatever I feel like posting. Overall, I don't take Slashdot very seriously. I usually don't post unless I have something to say, but if I'm in the mood, sometimes I'll post a blatant troll, or something completely offtopic, and I've been known to flame a user or two, but I never post as an AC. I don't give a shit about Karma, but I'm regularly called a Karma Whore -- even after the cap was implemented.
I recently submitted a story, and (much to my surprise) Hemos posted it. I assume he noticed my nic, and credited me anyway. Good for him. All the bullshit those guys get from/. users has got to wear on them, and it's refreshing to see that my submission didn't get swatted down in a knee-jerk reaction to my nic.
I had another account, but I've abandoned it. I like my nic. I have no intention of going back to the old one - even for the low UID. Frankly, I don't give a shit about that status symbol.
Good.
What the fuck is wrong with that?
Bandwidth costs money.
What the fuck is wrong with the people in this cuntry, that they expect everything to be fucking handed to them on a fucking silver platter?Hardware costs money.
A building full of H1B workers costs a little money, too.
If you think Google|Microsoft|AOL|Intel|Digital Convergence is so wrong, then fucking do it yourself, for FREE!
You're right about the RIAA, though. They suck.

Point taken, but it's not as if that type of fuck-up is limited to Apple/Motorola.

They overcharge their customers for what is otherwise standard equipment that you can get for half the price on the PC side
That's completely false.
Let's take the top-of-the-line Power Mac G4.
Off the shelf you get:
Base price:$3499.00
Okay, now let's look at what Gateway has to offer:
Base price: $2799.00
So, let's customize it to try & match the Mac.
Adjusted price: $3332
Hmmm...that's a difference of $167, and you still don't have FireWire, DVD-R, or gigabit ethernet.
Remember the whole G4 fiasco? I wonder how many people actually bought one of those 350 mhz G4 processors....
Huh?
Do the math people....
You do the math, moron.
Apple is a business. Grow up.

Fuck off.

In this case, you're doubly stupid, because the whom/who issue is moot. It should be 'which'.
--
the only alternative he mentions is OpenNap.
--
I thought the party line was something about not being able to steal code, 'cause it's just information....
--
No, it means you can leave your car unlocked, and you won't be held liable if somebody uses it to commit a crime.
--
It's pretty obvious, actually. Do the math.

He seems to be very thin-skinned. Very quick to jump in & defend himself when attacked. Quite easily trolled.

But, just because we can't find that number doesn't mean it can't be found....

I can't.
--
No, mathematics is full of proofs that we don't know how to do things, not that they're impossible.
--
Right. You can't prove a negative assertion.
--
No, all they've proven is that it can't be done within the bounds of current human knowledge.
--
It's not a troll just because you don't get the joke.

I don't post anonymously.

That's an excellent metaphor.

I might not even notice the banner ads, since I'm pretty much conditioned to not see them, but the postmark thing really threw me.
