This is obvoiusly the software that is being used to do this, If anybody wants the annonuncement it was posted on sid=slashcode, this seriously angers me, that someone should take it to this extent, I admit i've done crap to slashdot but seeing what I can do i've stopped developing sTs and put an explaination why on slashtroll.tripod.com
It pisses me off that someone should take a whole website down

No, I think it is the whole internet in general, it is becoming much more commericalised and therefore the adverts follow...
But like someone else said this crap shouldn't be allowed, surely adverts could be put under some regulation

Yes, but i've seen setups where some of the server directories are writable to most users for changing websites etc. So you wouldn't be all that safe as you seem to think.

This is why there is a sister to the RBL called the DUL which lists dialup accounts, the idea being that they should use their ISPs SMTP server to send mail which the spammers don't want to do...

There are many more ways to deafeat useless censorware programs and sex.com. can be viewed on any logs, what you need is a secure webbased proxy server with cookie authentication and encrytion of the urls.
I when i am at school am stuck behind one of the most restrive proxies in the world, it basically denys anything with any word it considers 'rude', it doesn't even let me view http://slashdot.org/ yet alone the comments.
The solution? use a https proxy, as https is encrytied on the client all the way to the server it works fine, add a cgi proxy server with cookies for authentication and slight encrytion of the url and the clueless admin can't see what your doing or even what sites you are viewing.... works a treat
