  1. Re:I gave up on the black PC thing on Translucent PC Cases · · Score: 1

Most CD-ROM & floppy faceplates snap off fairly easily. It was no problem when I was painting my PC, got the floppy plate, the door, and button painted. Same deal with the CD-ROM.

Even the front of the tray [on the CD-ROM] snapped off from the tray itself. There's also a lever (underneath) inside the CD-ROM to release the tray so you can pull it all the way out. (you may need to poke around with a screwdriver to find it)

I don't know about a mouse, you could probably take off the plastic cover and paint that. All you need to do for a monitor is mask off the screen and paint it.

Well, I *DO* already have all the South Park episodes on my disk.. at about 40mb apiece. (RV 256bit)

Only speaking for myself of course, but I have 2 soundcards working in Linux just fine. (yes, on the same system)

I don't know about DVD, but as far as I know the standard is locked up pretty tight. It'll be awhile before DVD can be supported. (Outside of commercial products)

If you're buying a PC for a dedicated task (i.e., throw it in a corner and forget it's there) what do you need with video and sound at all?

After the inital setup, you shouldn't even *need* to have a video card in there at all. (some boards won't boot without it though)
