Variations on the theme of decrypting your own passwords:
I am the system administrator for a small company.
I change the root/administrator password, but
before I can communicate the new password to my
boss, I die.
The entire network must be junked because circomvention of the encrypted password is illegal.
A small business uses a commercial accounting package that supports password access for security.
The bookkeeper disappears after embezzling funds
and changing the password.
Evidence of the crime is illegal to obtain because tools to decrypt the password are unavailable. (as an example, programs to decrypt QuickBooks passwords are currently available)
Take a look at airplane accident statistics pre- and post-Regan deregulation.
For the record, I did check some data on airline accidents within the jurisdiction of the US traffic control system.
1969 through 1981 (The year Regan de-unionized ATC)
Total accidents: 59
Annual average: 4.54
1982 to through 2003
Total accidents: 72
Annual average: 3.27
Thus, it would seem that Regan's canning of the ATC union and deregulation had a beneficial effect on the total number of accidents.
I used this for my data, where did you get yours, Ironica?
