    It's you who's kidding, right?

    I'd have thought by now, other distributions would be able to do at least partly what Debian has done since before 1.1. And, incidentally, what was one of the reasons I chose Debian in the first place.

    It's not as if upgrading was rocket science.

    Anyway, Debian certainly does *NOT* warn against upgrading - quite the opposite, we recommend it. Backing up is alwas good, of course, but installing from scratch is for when you wrecked your setup, not for when a new version comes out.
