  1. Re:ooohh... what a surprise on Microsoft To Assist Ximian In Producing Mono · · Score: 1

I agree. This just seems like a trick to get us using Windows software on our scared open source platforms. Full market coverage! This also may sound a little paranoid, but what if Microsoft changes it's mind or Ximian forgets to read the small print. Ximian could end up getting sued for copyright infringement later on because of one little thing they do in Mono. I'm not surprised that all of this is happening. When I first heard about the development of Mono, I thought that Microsoft might use this as an entry into the Linux market. I mean what next: Microsoft Gnome?

Its nothing new that we as a civilization will die off eventually. We are only hastening our own demise with our culture (whether you believe in global warming or not). Things are constantly being destroyed and created. In the words of the prophets "They Might Be Giants": "Time marches on"

What's all this about 18 bar pressure and using IR sensors to determine the reflected wavelength of your hot java. Gimme a cup of fresh McDonald's coffee anyday. The mystery of the flavor gives it a great appeal. Much like espresso its dark and thick. However unlike espresso, its probably not made from beans. What do they make their burgers from anyway? -tooth

  5. Re:could you be more biased cmd taco? on Slackware 8.0 Released · · Score: 1

Yeah, I installed an old version of Slackware years ago and liked it. Then I moved onto RedHat for a while. Eventually, while in college I met a guy who was running Slackware on his system in a place where all the other Linux users were running RedHat. I thought I'd give it a try again. I love the fact that it wasn't so bloated and you could actually go through and configure things the way that YOU wanted to. I'm tired of hearing people bash Slackware now. I always felt that part of running Linux was being able to have control over your OS - not accepting the packages that RedHat wants you to have on your system. The latest update seems to have all the major current packages available and has no problems adding other packages from RPMs using rpm2pkg. Come to think of it, I had more problems with my RPM Package database when I was running RedHat than I have had with the install manager in Windows. Whatever, I'm not going to take sides here, I'm just saying that RedHat has many, many flaws in its install, too (bloat, security, flexibility, etc.), and that insinuating that Slackware is outdated and inferior may be misthought.
