I don't work for apple, so everything you read here is conjecture. I think the original choice to go with BSD was based partly on the license. The BSD license has no REQUIREMENT to share source code, so if they decided to keep it closed they had the option.
Also, it's my understanding, that OpenBSD has one of the tightest and most secure TCP stacks around. That's why CISCO uses it in their routers.
I actually think this might be a scheme for them to raise a little more operating capital with very little effort on their part. From what I understand, they have been having problems manufacturing the emotion engine. By splitting their stock and making the entry point for new buyers a little more obtainable, they may raise a large sum of money ( not that they're ever hurting for cash ) that they can funnel into their manufacturing.
This kind of argument hearkens back to the D&D suicides of the late 70's and early 80's. My response to this is the same as it was to those. Violent subject matter only leads to this kind of reaction when the person is already mentally unstable. Millions of perfectly normal people play these games and watch this movie every day. I myself have participated in such things. However, I am mentally stable. Or a relative facsimile thereof. Why sue these people for the mental instability of one kid.
