Yeah, you're right it is Woodlock. Fortunately Richard Pini contacted me and said that he loved it and it was OK to use Woodlock. He was surprised his elves had advanced so far as to distribute all the tech news.
I run a site such as you're planning on. IANAL, but as long as it's obviously satire or parody you don't have much to worry about. Just don't go accusing anyone of any crimes, or use your stories to make money in the stock market (ie fake press releases posing as real)
That said anybody can sue you for anything, and hopefully some high profile person does. It would be the best exposure you could get.
Somebody should recruit Chuck D of Public Enemy to do a rap version of the DeCSS code. I'm sure he'd be just happy to stick it to Hollywood as he is the music industry. His bass voice would even make C code sound good. Fight the power!
I work for a computer manufacturer (albeit a very, very small one), and we don't charge less for taking the OS off either. Our logic has nothing to do with M$.
Usually when someone doesn't get the machine with the OS we spend countless hours on the phone in tech support with them trying to install their own OS. Not every computer user is a Slashdot genius.
If Dell doesn't drop the price, the money is going into their pocket not M$.
I'd pay $4.95 a month to use Napster, and that's certainly more than I spend on CDs now so the RIAA would be up on me.
They should make it a graduated scale with X number of dollars for X number of songs with an option for unlimited downloads.

Ever since I read that the Joy of Cola was just a caffeine buzz I stopped drinking any caffeinated beverage.
