People like to pick on Microsoft. The truth is the market works. People bought MSFT products, they got bigger. Woohoo. They acted like any other company. Increase market share. Any CEO would be booted if his goal was to have the company stagnate or shrink. Boo-hoo, Microsoft is big.
Monopolies can help consumers, as well. I don't see any real evidence that the market would be any different if a different company had risen to the big spot. Except maybe Apple, then we'd be paying much more for hardware. How have I been hurt? I don't see how. DRDOS and other compatibles weren't cheaper than MS-DOS.
As for charging different prices, all companies do that. You separate your markets. It's good business sense.
All I see is a self-righteous attitude - the world isn't a commune, everyone has to eat. Some people are better at it, get a bigger share.
Remember, Coca-Cola is bigger than MSFT most of the time. Why not attack them? Both Pepsico and Coke have bought up competitors using their leverage as big companies. Why not attack them?
That people bash something just because it is popular. O_o Besides, StarCraft was my first experience with wine, just to prove to myself that I could do it. I think that was more fulfilling than the game, though, in an odd sort of way. Oh, why do I care what you say. I think I just felt the need to defend StarCraft because I have played a couple thousand games of it over the past few years. Mmmm classic gaming.
