Ug. Delphi pretty. Delphi fleet of foot. Delphi compile fast. Delphi make fast code. Me like Delphi, so you must like Delphi. Me hate Java, you must hate Java.
My company is forced to use Oracle because our clients "don't trust PostgreSQL nor MySQL."
Hmmm. Why? PostgreSQL is a robust, trasactional RDBMS that is unfortunately missing the PHB name recognition so vital today. mySQL on the other hand is JustAnotherFileSystemAPI. Don't need transactions now, you say? ACID? Who needs that?
If you want product speed, you program in C or C++. If you want fast development, you use a rapid application development package like Inprise's Delphi.
No, ya got yer "facts" wrong there. Delphi shares it's machine code generator with BCB. If you want to learn about product speed, check out this. Delphi is a visual RAD tool that is capable of generating binaries just as efficient as C++. I would argue that OP is more readable/maintainable than C++, but THAT's just my opinion.
I got four machines that REFUSE to run any of several distros of linux (sig7/11 on setup or boot) yet have never bluescreened Win2k. All test servers running database / COM+ apps. The hardware in question (major PC names) is listed as supported by all parties in question.
Do I call out these distros as unstable, because of my experience with 4 boxen? No.
No, thats Windows' misbegotten 16 bit DOS cousin with the colorful 32bit clothing.
So? I can at least INSTALL W2k. 4 out of 6 major distro's Sig7/11 half way through install on my W2k box that NEVER BSODs
AMEN ...although, VisualStudio sucks...

really? ever TRIED / in NT/2000?

Well Goddamn. Sometimes /. DOES have some good discussions!
why?
Down the tubes? Really? Looked at their financials lately?
AMEN. Code to - and on - W2k, and screw the crappy 16-bit pieces of shi^h^h^hcrap that have my OS of choice a bad name.
actually, the WebClass part says even more, fsckin COM objects written in VB are about as reliable as an octogenarian's bladder.
Uhh, wait a minute. Profusion 8x SMP is a switched architecture. But then, it's a SMP design for x86 by Compaq, not Intel.

Why? It's stable. There are applications for it. Development for it is not difficult (with the right tools)
What is it that you need to know? I have no trouble finding development documentation. Ever heard of MSDN?
