Real languages evolve, but since there is no real standardization process the language evolves over time, as the people using it see fit.
Computer languages need to evolve as well. The evolve faster, because the pace of technological change is much faster than that of society, and it evolves in graduated leaps because of the frozen standard inherent in widespread use of it.
I don't see a big deal; These companies decided to outsource their traffic analysis. While the capability surely exists for Coremetrics to track users across websites, a'la Doubleclick, their customers would be terribly pissed.
Personally, I don't see the issue of online tracking as being more than 'a tempest in a teapot'. Those that do not wish to be tracked can surely disable it, and the tracking companies and user data mining companies will continue to make money off the mindless drones that populate the net.
It's always been 'buyer beware'. What is so special about the net that it no longer applies? So the tracking is easier to do, and easier to analyze, and there is more of it, and it is more meaningful; Do you honestly think your bank, the telephone company, and the credit agencies aren't selling your spending habits to marketers?
Unless the FBI all of a sudden raises its number of employees... surveillance on every American citizen is not possible
Excuse me? Just because they don't have the capability to spy on everyone doesn't mean there is nothing to be paranoid over! Doing it once is just as wrong as 240 million times..
they are probably doing something illegal or extralegal
Would you like it if the FBI decided to do warrantless door to door searches of your neighborhood?? I'm sure the thought of the FBI opening all your mail before you get it leaves you with the fucking warm fuzzies, right?
Judging by the massive proliferation of IRC clients, `bots, ICQ clones and simple OpenGL FP shooters among entry level programmers, I'd say any of them would be an enjoyable forced project.
The core APIs are 15-20 years old, and it's humongous overkill to try to implement it for a simple display When X was designed, it was designed to run on simple display devices far less powerful than the modern PDA. X ran well and was a very powerful GUI in the days of 386-16 and 512K. It should be even better on the 50mhz/4M devices of today!
Anonymous Cowards, take note: Telling a moderator what to do is always the fastest way to (-1, Flamebait).

So the answer is: Mabye. Or I don't know.
So what is the German for 'Open Source Software'?
