Hello! Linux is one of the best things that could have happened to M$ Having thousands of gifted brains in products with available source code. New algorithms, new ideas, new products that will come out from M$, no R&D involved....
If you realize HP48GX is a 1993s model and the great advance it was at the time! I had an HP41 CV then and loved it! used it all my way through college until I could afford a 48 CV.
I don;t need any other calc now, the 49 may be faster but when I need something the 48 can't do I use maple or Octave
Probably yes, if you count numbers of x86 systems that are ported to linux compared to the number of MACs. McIntosh is a great system, the 1 button mouse still bugs me, and OS X is the best port of Linux so far. If Apple can make OSX work on 386 with all the software that can run on it and support a 3 button mouse it could kick the crap out of eery linux desktop initiative except for the price.
Even though I've tried to switdh to OO I've found that it is frustrating to try to make simple charts. As an engineer I need those all the time and not having the capability to choose different X values for each series is a pain in the behind. Excel rates much better in that field, didn;t find many differences in the rest of the suite.
I went back to the good ol' Quattro Pro v5 (for DOS)
Isn't it simpler to have the inspection shop send the DMV a report with the miles in the odometer each year and then taxes are calculated? I wouldn't like to have a GPS in my car transmitting my location to the government
Does this mean that about 60% of the humans must be killed by AIDS so that the next generations develop immunity? hopefully some scientist can develop a vaccine before that....
While I agree with some of these, some extra development was needed on them or they were ahead of the time.
Size and speed are the "drivers" of the society and they forget about quality sometimes. I agree with the ribbon mic and the colt revolvers as quality over quantity.
The Amiga as a great thing and the electric cars/buses as a future thing.....
Why don't we make a poll of the technology that shouldn't be abandoned?
The problem is at corporate level, the bosses don't like to see clone computers, you can do that for your home or for small bussinesses with open minded boss (hard to find)
I'm also looking for a PC for home, I don't have the time to build one right now and all I checked (IBM, Dell, Gateway, Compaq,...) come with WIndows preinstalled, I asked the customer support guys if I could buy a machine without software and so far only one company answered positively... they said it would cost me like 300 bucks less.
or the UK for that matter if you come from a "non-sanitized" country.....
if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear

Ahhh the problems of running Windows CE in space....
Even though Ansel Adams is known for his f/32 work and careful use of the zone system he was aldo a fan of innovation
We used 35mm cameras as well as 8x10s... so he would have gone digital, starting with the Apple Quicktake
I guess it means a digital camera that has the same size and uses the same lenses as the Rebel line of cameras?
Nikon has one of those, D100 which uses the whole line fo AF lenses, it's kind of expensive though!
Frequency of the magnetron is very stable around 2.45 GHz +- 5%
This experiment is aimed to kids and school teachers so it should be great for them!
Also, the speed of light in a cable is not the same as the speed of light in vaccum/air so 1/4th may be right.

How can someone think like that in /.
What about the old theory that AIDS was a lab-created (aka. genetically modified) virus?
Does this mean that about 60% of the humans must be killed by AIDS so that the next generations develop immunity?

What about the 486SX A real waste of silicon!
Anybody noticed that NBC had a "DECISION 2000" logo last night and this morning it changed to "INDECISION 2000" ?
The lighter side of the election
