This sounds alot like Terry Pratchett's idea of "Invisible Writings". Since all books are influenced by those that were written before it, you can deduce the contents of books that have not been written yet by analyzing existing texts.
Not to mention that you can have clients from several different remote machines connected to the same desktop. The comparable would be running a different VNC session for each remote machine...nightmare!
In addition, this is assuming that the remote machine is running a graphic display. In my office, several of our larger *nix boxes do not have any keyboards, monitors etc. attched, but we all simutaneously run X apps off of them.
Ummmm... I believe that Be was doing this a couple of years ago. They decided that it wasn't a very good idea (especially at the time) and removed it. Instead they created a hierarchical fs that could be queried (attributes, contents, etc...). Much more robust and easier to use.
Any commentary by John Waters. His earlier films in particular.

Reminds me of something...
'I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant'
-Admiral Yamato after the attack on Pearl Harbor
Or something like that.
In particular "Multiple Maniacs" and "Pink Flamingos".
A good runner-up would be "Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Forum".
