One of the stories on the list is growing hunger in the US. Could it be that someone has kept you from learning of actual starvation?

That's not even funny. I dare you to find me a single instance of a human being actually starving to death in the US. Hell, I dare you to find me a single example of death by starvation anywhere in the American continent. You won't even find that in Haiti.

You obviously have no idea how complete the breakdown of social structure and fabric has to be before people start to actually die from lack of food. And you've obviously never been to a place where that happens.

Are there undernourished or malnourished (two very different things) people in the US? Sure. People starving to death? And no one knows about it because of "censorship"? I'd really enjoy seeing you try and back that up somehow.

As to the "are you listening" quippy... well, that article about the Indian retailers was if nothing else hilarious. How anyone clap and dance around a quote like "it's too expensive anyway, so that's why we pirate it" is just beyond me.

I couldn't get past your dollar sign shitstorm, so just let me parse out this article for you:

"We are not against piracy but against the way Microsoft is working to stop it," - I'm not against larceny, just that I dislike being arrested for it. More to the point, this is an acknowledgment of what they're doing.

"Moreover, if they want to do business in India then they should change their prices and policies according to the Indian market. We are the one who are promoting their products in the market and if they will behave in such a rash manner with us then we will stop business with them." - Look buddy, I don't like this bicycle I stole from you anyway. Paint it blue instead of red, change the rims and I'll do you the favor of stealing it.

"Since we are are not charging anything extra for installing the software, it means that we are actually not trading in pirated software. For us this is just a sewa (selfless act) that we are offering to our customers." - We're not trading boxed copies of Windows for hard cash, but this stuff is great for our business. Therefore, this is perfectly fine.

"Besides, the pricing of their operating systems is way too high for the Indian markets." - It's too expensive, so we have a right to steal it. This is the same argument used to pirate music and movies. It's too expensive, so I'll just download it along with half a million other people.

Any normal person would see how completely ridiculous this is. But you need to see it as some sort of heroic struggle against evil, along with hyperbolic comparisons to Mahatma effin' Ghandi.

Now, if you're done rationalizing crime in a culture you don't understand and have referred to before in racist overtones, I'd love a response to this as well. Thanks.

Not so, FUDster. The follow up report to the blackout by CERT was published in 2004 (and Slashdot also linked to it).

On page 133-134 of the report itself we find:

The Cyber Analysis sub-team was led by the CERT(R) Coordination Center (CERT/CC) at Carnegie Mellon University and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). This team was focused on analyzing and reviewing electronic media of computer networks in which online communications take place. The sub-team examined these networks to determine if they were maliciously used to cause, or contribute to the August 14, 2003, outage. Specifically, the SWG reviewed materials created on behalf of DHS's National Communication System (NCS). These materials covered the analysis and conclusions of their Internet Protocol (IP) modeling correlation study of Blaster (a malicious Internet worm first noticed on August 11, 2003) and the power outage. This NCS analysis supports the SWG's finding that viruses and worms prevalent across the Internet at the time of the outage did not have any significant impact on power generation and delivery systems. The team also conducted interviews with vendors to identify known system flaws and vulnerabilities.

    Bold emphasis mine.
