    I will never join the Republicans or the Democrats. They are the crux of problem, and they're going to make sure that that never changes.

    You're welcome to whatever preconceptions make you happy, but I think you've got opinionated discussion confused with groupthink.

    Lots of people post here. Lots of people have lots of different opinions. If you don't get value out of those discussions, why do you post here? To feel superior?

    I'm just guessing (call me crazy!) that there might be more than one "Linuxole" (wherever you pulled that word out of, please put it back), and they might not agree with one another.

    Actually, I think that's remarkably close to the truth.

    Drug companies like to find treatments, not cures. Why do you think there's so much emphasis on finding the next Viagra?

    Yeah, that Linux, sure glad they invented keyboard shortcuts. Sure wish there were other operating systems that could do things when you push buttons on the keyboard. Never heard of such a thing...

    My objection to Linux is its total lack of consistency. If a button does one thing in one window, it should do the same thing in a different window.

    That just isn't there. Maybe it will be, maybe it won't.

    I'm glad you like your Linux system. Please don't write anything for my Powerbook.

    I think you're selling yourself short. You could probably get another dozen or so illegible icons at the bottom of the screen if you just got rid of those pesky...what do you call 'em? Words. Yeah, words. Who needs 'em?

    Fair enough. They're also not worth bagging on constantly, which happens frequently enough.

    I'm a satisfied customer of Apple's. I think their products are well engineered, and they do what I want them to do for a fair price.

    Microsoft DOES have the right to do whatever they want with their developers. The only thing they DON'T have the right to do is abuse their illegal monopoly. Which they do anyway, because they get a free pass from the Federal Government.

    Which "free pass" do you think is worth more money?

    All the cell phones I've ever seen that advertise MP3 use a 2.5mm headphone jack, which is stereo-capable. The iPod uses a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is about as far from proprietary as anything on the planet.

    We're talking about portable. All I need to plug in is some cans.

    Look, if YOU want to look like crazy Batman guy with your turntable hanging off your belt, knock yourself out. My treo works fine. My iPod works fine. I can easily imagine one device subsuming the other, and that doesn't keep me up late at night.

    I don't understand.

    You can't have a modular, integrated, roll-your-own solution for portable devices. It just won't work. You either go the Batman route, or buy a good smartphone.

    What are you proposing? I seriously don't see what you're getting at...

    I don't have to carry my home stereo in my shirt pocket, so size isn't a factor. It is a factor with portable devices.

    Therefore, different criteria pertain.
