One does not throw around these accusations, and the wagons would be circled rather quickly.
My project is rather tangential to the work the rest of the lab does. I will be the only who ever does the work in the lab, and no one else will ever follow up on it.
I've never been part of a multi-pub project, that is true, but that is not the point here.
Back to the the topic of the post - I have heard of other labs (postdoc mills) also conducting shady research. My point, is that we should not be too high and mighty about research in the USA compared to other countries. Maybe the volume of cheating is less, but it does still occur.
Peer review may be intense, but I find that flaws in research are often ignored.
As my prof said to me the other day: "I could sell this no problem," in reference to my MS thesis work. I have been hoping to do more supportive research, but in the "publish, publish, publish" world, it has been deemed more prudent to move on to other work.
As the Prof said, there are two possibilities if I attempt the background(controls). (1) They work, in which case I've bought nothing (her words). or (2) The controls don't work in which case everything is garbage. The Prof would rather remain ignorant if that is the case... wow.
What honesty we have here in Academia USA!
A few sentences later, the sage Prof said, "It's not unethical."
I thought I was getting a MS degree to learn and do science well. Instead, it's become drudgery.
You assume you know the scooter guy's thought process.
He paid his Medicare taxes because he was forced to. Of course he is going to use the system to the max after being forced to pay in.
I purposely use tax funded services to the max even though I am against them. Do you think because the government steals from me that I won't take that money back??
I agree. I always vote Libertarian. McCain has terrible policies, IMO, as does Obama. Though I do think McCain's policies are more likely to cause more harm to this nation - war and death are worse than increased socialism.
But it seems liberals have a huge problem with the philosophy of voting how you truly believe. They get apoplectic about Ralph Nader running for President.
As a libertarian conservative, I hope McCain goes down in raging flames. I fucking hate neo-cons and am looking forward to destruction of the republican party.
My loathing of social conservative, do-gooder, busybodies is beyond my dislike of the socialist tendencies of Obama.
McCain is such an obvious fear-mongering asshole. Such a condescending prick. How the fuck are republicans impressed by that shitbag?
McCain & Obama both seem pretty liberal and love big government. McCain just seems to have an extra hard-on for war. He is somewhat psychopathic when it comes to the middle east.
"Ron Paul shares the same unrealistic disconnect that gullible voters do, that somehow quite stupidly that a weaker more privatised hence far less democratic government will make it better."
This is where you lose me. I don't think it's democratic to take my money to fund all these public programs.
If I decide that I don't want to participate, and try to withhold taxes, I go to jail. So basically I'm a slave for the state.
At least in a private system, I have the personal choice of what I want to spend my money on. And my income is not taxed.
Otherwise, I'm all for the good of the general public.
First of all, the marriage issue is not about individual rights. Ron Paul in no way supports discrimination against gay individuals.
Secondly, this is definitely a difficult issue. I personally don't care if gay people get married. It's none of my business. I personally don't see why we have *any* laws recognizing or prohibiting marriage.
We are a republic, and I'm not sure if it's right to force some state (say Utah) to recognize a gay marriage performed in California or Massachusetts.
I'll leave the adoption issue for others to deal with. I've not read much about it.
My support for Ron Paul stems mostly from his views on international relations, taxation, limiting federal government and supporting individual rights.
Ron Paul is Pro Liberty and Individual rights! How on earth can you get "against homosexual rights" from that?! He wants to get the federal government out of the marriage business entirely!
In regards to religion, please show me one article written by Dr. Paul http://www.house.gov/paul/legis_tst.htm where he puts religion above the law and the Constitution.
That's a good one. Like there will be a power vacuum left by eliminating the Department of Education, the IRS and Homeland Security.
About the only place I could possibly see you having a valid point is in regards to transportation. But Ron Paul is not talking about privatizing roads - that would be decades down on the list of government waste to be replaced by private enterprise.
All change would have to pass through Congress. So a vote for Ron Paul is a vote to attempt to fix the massive waste and debt we have now.
He's the only candidate seriously concerned with individual Americans. He is the only candidate talking about inflation and how to fix it. He's the only one who wants to end the American empire, and yet still have productive ties with other countries. He's the only one who could save Social Security. And he's the only one with a decent health care plan. Get the government out, allow people to keep their own money, and many, many more could get health insurance.
For example, if one tab is loading a complicated page, all the tabs in FF slow down to a halt (reminds me of Mac OS 7 usability).
In Safari, a complicated tab does *not* slow down other threads. This is a how a modern web browser should behave. I think webkit/khtml/safari are the future, not gecko.
Your blackmail threat to vote democrat is meaningless.
What you don't realize is that Ron Paul supporters hold the blackmail threat stronger than neo-cons. If you do not nominate Ron Paul, I guarantee the Republican nominee will not win the General.
Have you even used modern integrated Intel graphics? I have a macbook core duo (not even core2duo), and I frequently maintain above 40fps when playing quake3 (openarena) at 800x600 on fedora 6. I also have a desktop machine with an NIVIDIA PCIExpress card, which is definitely faster, but manages to crash after 10minutes of play.
I'll take the open source Intel drivers, any day and would say it is the NIVIDIA that is actually "shit."
I won't be saying the school name here ;)

Foolish Socialist. You have much to learn.

Incorrect. Proprietary drivers are no longer required for Real Work.
I use the OpenSource Radeon Drivers with Mesa 7.7 to do lots of work with PyMol. It has all the performance I need, is stable and glitch free.
From what I've read, Mesa 7.8 is just around the corner, and will be even better.
Open Source Accelerated 3D has arrived.
no we don't feel superior when watching seinfeld.
we identify with George, and his desire to always take the easy way out. It's funny to see how far he will go, and not ever really be punished.
It's funny to see what crazy ideas Kramer has.
It's funny to see Jerry comment on it.
Me too! I was actually looking forward to watching the series.
It was quite fascinating and entertaining. I don't have a TV, and don't usually watch any commercials, but I did like these.
I feel cheated by some over sensitive marketing type at MS.
uhuhuh
I said Democant
uhuhuh
will you pull my finger now?
The Ron Paul thing is working out quite nicely, actually. I understand your fear - it is justified for those who oppose true Freedom.
How many people were aware of libertarian philosophy 1 year ago? How many are are of the philosophy today?
It is a large growing movement, and Neocons, such as Huckabee and McCain are becoming fearful of libertarianism. We can thank Ron Paul for this.
The Ron Paul movement has only just begun.

I used to hear good things about Switzerland, but lately I've read they no longer allow citizens to own firearms.
Damn Neocons are taking over the world.
As a libertarian conservative, I hope McCain goes down in raging flames. I fucking hate neo-cons and am looking forward to destruction of the republican party.

I seriously want Iran and the other Islamic nations to get nukes. If they have nukes, then we won't invade them, and we can avoid another insane war.
McCain & Obama both seem pretty liberal and love big government. McCain just seems to have an extra hard-on for war. He is somewhat psychopathic when it comes to the middle east.
ugh. rabid, interventionist neo-cons.
what did the world do to deserve them?
(points are taken away for mentioning you-know-who)
I think it is undemocratic.
I can't possibly be accurately represented at the federal level. It is too large and unwieldy.
I don't consent to my money being given to help other nations. How does that represent me? Or any American? It represents politicians.
I don't have a problem with taxes at the local & state level. But federal income tax is undemocratic.
"Ron Paul shares the same unrealistic disconnect that gullible voters do, that somehow quite stupidly that a weaker more privatised hence far less democratic government will make it better."

"Ron Paul is vehemently against homosexual rights, and he's especially eager to allow states to ban it"
I've looked everywhere and can not find where your statement is correct.
Please back up this statement of "wacky."
I find him to be the only candidate who focuses on important issues for the prosperity of America.
Great. Another ignorant, fear-mongering post.
Ron Paul is Pro Liberty and Individual rights! How on earth can you get "against homosexual rights" from that?! He wants to get the federal government out of the marriage business entirely!
