Why is it funny when you make fun of Mormons but awful when Maureen O'Gara claims that PJ is a Jehovah's Witness? I think both you and MOG are out of line.
Ask the state of Utah about the super-strong Syncrete that it put on its roads in the 1980s. It was cheaper and stronger than normal concrete. It turns out that it was a spectacular failure and didn't handle cards passing over it well. Chips of it would fly up and go through your windshield. But it proved to be very durable when they tried to remove it. It cost millions to jackhammer away that layer of roadway.
Moral of this story? Do a long term pilot on a short strech of road that sees some use. Plan to be able to remove it if need be.
My understanding is that each component of the system needs to be man-rated. It requires more process control in assembly, better tolerances, and more QA. It also requires mountains of documentation. There were other, similar rockets being assembled at Thiokol while I was there that didn't go through this process and were therefore not man-rated.
Actually they are looking at using the ASRB from the shuttle as the primary booster. This makes a lot of sense. I wrote the editor for the documentation system for the ASRBs. The amount of documentation needed for stuff that is man-rated is immense. Given that the ASRBs are all we've got that is man rated, it makes sense to continue using them.
It does something else though, it helps establish his team as the recognized owner of the term "Tiger" which might help them in any future lawsuit they want to bring...
and obviously Apple people are doing it too. But they say who they are and what they do, so you have some clue as to how authentic/informed they are. In any case, any serious company has formal policy on speaking on behalf of the company.
You can Google it if you want, there are plenty of pages. The original home of the 13 colonies is Kobol (rather than Kolob), they have a Council of the 12, people aren't married instead being sealed, Count Iblis is obviously a reference to the Mormon concept of Satan, and there are these guys in white spaceships running around saying, "As you are now, we once were, and as we are now, you may become."
If you were Mormon you should recognize at least a few of those concepts. There are more. I happen to think that "Frak!" is pretty Mormon as well.
I didn't say that he would have to connect it. The new series seems completely unaware of the connection and anything that comes up is simply a leftover from the old one rather than an intentional reference. I just thought it would provide him one more reason to weigh in on it. Maybe he doesn't have cable...
There is an odd quality to your post and that of some others here. This is a guy that makes a living writing mostly sci-fi. He probably knows something about it. His definition of sci-fi is pretty broad too, and many of his books are probably on the boarders of what is considered sci-fi. I am the first to admit that every one of his books isn't amazing, but his opinion has to be at least as valid as yours on the subject. Unless you are Ray Bradbury or something...
That said, I don't understand how he left Battlestar Galactica off the list. I would love to know what he thinks of it, especially given the whole Mormon thing.
You don't get it. He (you?) is either an astroturfer and therefore not genuine, or he is deceiving his employer, and therefore dishonest.
I will admit that I would probably read a blog of his if here were to blog on what it is he himself is doing at Apple (assuming it is more than posting on/. all day), but the self-appointed mouthpiece of all things Apple thing is annoying.
Either it is part of his official job to post to/. and answer questions (which he would never confirm) or he is doing this unofficially. I would love to know what Steve thinks of his constant use of "we", as if he is a company spokesperson.
put the signing certs on pin protected smart cards. Then ship the cards to the people you want to have be able to sign. Ship the pin to unlock the card by a different method.
Agreed. My company has business conduct guidelines that prohibit this sort of behavior. I would guess that Apple has even stricter rules, given how they like to keep things secret as long as possible. This guy gets off on representing himself as an Apple employee. Maybe a janitor?
Search for "saints" the plural form, as it occurs in the name of the church. Look at how most of the epistles start.
As for putting words in your mouth, please forgive me. The church is called what it is called because that the name that the Lord gave it. You can take the issue up with Him, ok?
As I understand it, they don't want ID taught, they just want to emphasize that evolution is a theory. I think that a large number of people are troubled not so much by the theory of evolution, but by the holes in the observable evidence.
Of course saying that there are problems with evolution gets athiests fired up about as much as evolution gets fundamentalists going.
Answer this Question: "Was the Intillegent Designer intelligently designed?"
If YES, then there is an endless recursion of intelligent designers.
If you are LDS, then the answer is yes, and yes there is an endless recursion, or at least that is the implication. Of course if you are LDS, then evolution probably doesn't bother you much.
I have the faster mini, with OS X 10.3.9 and a gig of ram. The Batman trailer plays well. I noticed some very slight skipping, but I was looking for it. I am sure that if I showed it to someone without mentioning it they wouldn't notice it. In any case the picture quality is amazing.
I downloaded all the new BSG episodes, all from btefnet. I also bought the DVD of the miniseries. This is a gigantic bummer.
good thing they didn't go after my favorite, which is...

Here's an article that goes into detail on the subject.
Mission accomplished sir! I am unable to read the article.

It's pretty much my favorite poem...

no, I'm merely annoyed. I also think that he makes snarky AC followup comments that he wouldn't make using his /. username.

This is what I mean.
In any case, you misunderstand the term. It is used in the biblical sense, not the Catholic sense.
All bibles that have something called the "New Testament" have expansion packs, so yours might be an upgraded version as well.
