  1. Re:reality check on Reviews: "O Brother" And Others · · Score: 1

I really saw no attack in Katz's comment about the Southern (rural) ideology. He simply pointed out that the Coens show this particular side in their story telling. I do agree that the South certainly doesn't have a monopoly over religious and moral zeal, but there is definatly a reason why they call it the "Bible Belt." But in civics, they tought me that more commonly than not, people living in rural areas are more religios and are more conservitave. He was just stating a fact, and I found it interesting that you took offence to this. Seems more a comment on your personality and belifes than what Katz said or implied.

just clicking on the article the same thing as reading it? Obviously if you people had taken the time to really check this thing out, you would understand how pretty damn cool this is. Firstly, its not a "one-handed" device as the title mistook it for. The reason they thought that was because the picture of the guy holding it was doing so with one hand. Secondly, it does have a reliance on a central point, as Timothy pointed out. But this, in my mind, is neglegable. I used to be an avid console gamer (before i got my first pc : ) so I'm used to the central handheld controler. I think it would be a great way to get kids who know the N64/PSX/DC game pads by heart to learn how to type. As for me, i would buy this thing (assuming i had the cash) because it still looks comfortable. I like the idea of using rocker switches to mimic the finger movement, but it leaves out the wrist travel (and controtions) thus lowering strain. And if you tell me to get an ergonimic keyboard, i would love to, but im just a poor college freshman without a job or money. I'm also on a laptop and having 2 keyboards seems like more pain than what its worth. also i've been designing an entertainment machine (hdd vcr (with cd writer for digital copies)/dvd player/gaming machine) and i think it would serisously kick ass for that. it would be much better than using a wireless kb/mouse and having to stow them off to the side and then use them on your lap. I know its probably vapor, and if it does come out it will have the same popularity as ACT Lab's PC light gun system, but what the hell, I still give it my approval.

  6. The U is safe on On-Line Uranium Auctions · · Score: 1

When people talk about "Weapons Grade" and "Industrial Grade" theyre talking about the ratio of the Uranium 238 to Uranium 235 (forgive me, i dont have my Nuc-Rad notes with me. if i did i could tell you the exact ratio for reactors and weopons.) Both are unstable and have long half-lives, BUT, there is no way to make a nuclear power plant explode like a giant nuke. When a power plant is running, it starts the process by opening the control rods and exposing the fuel pellets to neutrons which slam into them at high speeds. The neutrons break the U atoms into protons and more neutrons. This process is the nuclear chain reacation. It produces Plutonium, neutrons, and of course, heat. When a nuclear weapon is detonated, the same process occurs, only at a much faster rate. The reaction is started when the fuel "goes critical" this means that the atoms are too heavy and will start to break apart (and remember E=MC^2, so the energry realeased is quite powerfull). Also note that the fuel pellets are inacive until the reactor is started, that is, you can take a pellet in your bare hands, even put it in your mouth (if thats what you're into) and you will not be exposed to any radiation. However, when you bombard the pellet with a neutron, I would suggest you get yourself as far away from it as possible, and get to a hospital immidatly. Unfortunatly, it is impossible to tell when you are reciving a radiation dose until it is too late. But if you have an unexposed pellet, there is almost no way to make it into weapons grade. (also you'd have to refine it, carve it into a perfect sphere and have an implosion device just lying around).
