The biggest reason I use AIM is to check away messages to see where people are and if I can get a hold of them. TOC doesn't even let you do this without sending them a message and getting the away message as your response. Besides "supported" is relative. Yes, TOC is more supported than OSCAR, AOL doesn't give a damn if it works like it is documented or if it works for anything other than Quickbuddy.
Now to try to convince everyone I know to use Jabber...
