  1. Re:TiVo a weaning device? on News on TiVo, "God's Machine" · · Score: 1

I've been in the same situation for a while, and I still find out about new shows. Tivo just suggests more of the same stuff I already watch. ("You like Will & Grace and Frasier? Try watching Friends." "Thanks! I'd never heard of Friends before!") But my friends talk about shows they like, that's how I heard of The West Wing and 24.

And if you do find yourself going a day or two without watching TV, is that so bad? Will you be worse off because you read a book or called a friend instead of watching TV?

I turned off Tivo's suggestions entirely. Now instead of watching reruns of Buffy, I stay in better touch with my friends, my apartment is cleaner, and I spend more time on my hobbies. With Firefly gone, mabey I'll watch another show instead, or mabey I'll watch less TV. Either way is OK with me.

It's never that easy. Whenever I want to schedule a conference room in Outlook I have to go through too many steps:

    1. Open up the intranet page listing all the conference rooms. Otherwise I can't remember how many people each room seats, or what's in the room.
    2. In Outlook's meeting request window, click Invite Others
    3. Choose a conference room
    4. Click OK
    5. Find out that conference room is full
    6. Go back to step 2. Repeat until a room is free.

I should be able to tell Outlook "Find me a conference room on the same floor I'm on that has a speakerphone and will seat everyone attending this meeting" and let it assign me a room. The way the admins used to assign conference rooms before we "improved" things with Outlook.

Oregon has a law almost exactly like the one
in Tenn. Go to www.ornocall.com for a sign-up
form. It works great, I haven't heard from
    telemarketers in ages.

Even though it's an Oregon law, businesses outside
the state still have to obey it.

  4. Oregon voting on At Long Last, Election Day · · Score: 1

Here in Oregon, we've got complete vote by mail. Nobody waits in line at polling booths because there aren't any.

I voted last week from the comfort of my living room. There weren't any lines and I could take as long as I needed to make my decisions.
