anybody can grab a gun, go to the mall, shoot a few people
What happens then? Media outcry and security everywhere tightened up beyond recognition. People who fsck up websites for fun are just adding fuel to the "we need tight security on the internet" arguments which make the internet practically unusable for the rest of us. I'm not against activism, but it might be an idea to keep it to the proper channels where it is less likely to be confused with random vandalism.
...My god, I hope that 10,000 years in the future...
A small point here, but worth making, I think. Dune is actually set a lot more than 10'000 years in the future. Unless I am mistaken, the year 10'191 given in the book refers to a calendar which takes the foundation of the Spacing Guild as year 0. In Appendix 2 of the novel, it is said that mankind traveled through space for one hundred and ten centuries before the Bulterian Jihad, which itself lasted about 200 years. So Dune is at least 20'300 years in the future. It may be more though. I don't remember reading that the Spacing Guild was formed immediately after the Jihad; there may have been yet more time in between the Jihad and the Guild.
Doubtless all this will be cleared up when the next collection of Dune novels, set around the Jihad, are published sometime from 2002.

My two cents,
