    This is definitely why a civil society will allocate a substantial portion of its output to retraining. Essentially, to be morally right about it, we should tax the rich until everyone has sufficient training to compete for jobs.

    The revolution of automotive transport put a lot of horse dung collectors out of work too. Society should advance. Period. That that means some jobs are erased is a good thing. Whenever jobs are erased, it represents a freeing of human minds to focus on even more productive tasks.

    Unfortunately, there's almost no aspect of civics that isn't contested by a top-4 party (democrat/ows/repulican/tea). There'd be no hope of constructing a test people coudl agree on.l

    There are a lot of sites out there where the javascript is pretty vital. If all you are doing on the web is reading text, it probably doesn't matter to you.

    Anorexia is mostly a problem of younger girls. It's rare to see it persist past 25 without killing. So if you want to see some anorexia, go cruise a high school.

    Yes, we've already been able to definitively sample one planet with life, and there is some pretty good evidence for life having made a go of it on at least 2 other bodies.

    And yet it led to a clear, effective strategy that avoided civilization's destruction.
    And it did have a pretty clear meaning: that we would act in every OTHER way as if we had trust (proceed with treaty requirements etc), but we would continue to check to ensure the other side wasn't lying about their compliance.

    Well, this story is about azure being down for 7 hours, Amazon was down for 8.
    And since Amazon's outage took out all of the US and EU, if you needed responsive applications in those regions you were hosed, and hosed from 840am - 450pm, basically a full work day for both services.

    Regardless of your driving skill, speeding above the limit puts others lives at risks because there are accident risks you can't control by driving skill. And driving at that higher speed, your impact damage is higher. So you are more likely to kill someone. So you are risking someone else's life for your convenience. That's the immorality.
