  1. dammit on New Windows Worm Inching Around Internet · · Score: 2, Informative

I guess after the 2 years I've been using the same exploit I'll have to learn something new :(

With windows 2000 the administrator password is accully left blank by default if you select the auto login (all users use same login) option on the windows 2000 install. That what makes this exploit so widespread. Its nothing new, Rit.edu had a the exact attack almost a year ago.

w00t juarez at 700Kb/sec+ @home newsgroups are probably the worse for this, there is a good 3-4 vcds that get posted everyday, at least 10 various isos for different games and apps. This is a start for many things to come.

I've been in a position like this. I broke the schools filtering system by configuring a proxy (not really breaking it but anyway) I was hauled down to the office (being 14 at the time) and was thretened with court charges, suspension or expulsion. I never even did anything, they were pissed because I told kids how to "goto objectional sites". From that experiance I can safely say they pump you full of so much shit you break down. On this situation I called my parents right away, if your parents are there they don't press you so hard. But hell, hacking the schools computers could be a slip and accidently clicking "Network Neighboorhood" and then they wonder how you got past all their blank passwords.

Well if you can clone people, whats stopping the richer people from making clones for backup body parts. Like a heart that fits perfectly etc. And if you clone someone then who owns them? If they were created by man and not god then would the creator have ownership? And would these clones have the same rights as real people?

Really most *kids* will stay out of that stuff, and whats the point of blocking it out a school if the kids can just go home and look it up there?

How about I clone a good 1000 midgets and make them act out the civil war? And then sell tickets to the show which would be over a period of 3 months at $10 a day for 90 days and at about 800 people attending I would make $720000 which isn't too bad of a deal. And no one would care if the midgets kill each other because they all look the same so it doesn't matter. And you could sell the leftovers as slaves to the people who attend.

  12. Bess sucks on Kid Clicks For Sale · · Score: 1

I've had some experiance with bess, mostly me telling kids how to configure a proxy server to bypass it, and getting dragged down to the office with the teachers saying "we could take you to court over this, but we will be nice" over that little damned thing they make you sign saying you won't change settings and goto *bad* sites. If they make you sign that contract type thing then why do they need to protect you against sites that you shouldn't be going to in school. If you agree not to go to these sites in a legaly binding contract. Maybe they shouldn't block out every site they can get their greesy little paws on (see http://www.peacefire.org/censorware/BESS/ for a good list) and hotmail.com and all other email sites, they want you to use their email service so the teachers can read all your email. "They want to see if you are involved with drugs etc". They just don't get it, the sites are blocked on opinion of the people who work for bess. Something that might be offensive to you might not be offensive to everyone else. I really don't care if the makers of bess want to sell their stats because I have chosen to not use the internet at school because its limited so much that its lost its usefulness. All of xoom, angelfire and most other free sites are blocked out, most of the personal education pages are posted on these sites, "but since there is a lot of *bad* stuff we must block out the thousands of personal web sites that have a agreement for their users to not post offencive material". Wouldn't it be cheaper and more effective to have some teacher check logs of the web sites and boot users that use it to goto these "offensive" sites ? After a few students get banned it will add a little fear to the students peers and stop most of the users from going to these *bad* sites. There is no possible way to block all the *bad* sites with filtering software, the internet is growing way to fast for that. If you can't block it all then why block part of it?

All of you are thinking about digital fingerprinting, but in fact you could add the fingerprint as analog data. Like if you add tones that are of higher frequncy then you can hear or add a numeical value as a tone and have it play really fast so you can't hear it. This would make it harder to remove and also hard to locate the fingerprint.
