Just because the system that supports you is a democracy does not mean that all Americans are bright does it? (as a matter of fact reading your comments gives me a direct answer to that question)
Now the opposite also is true. Iran is leaving under fanatical dictatorship which is not exactly ideal condition for intellectual expression. However most Iranian (and other muslims) I met were highly educated and bright people, and still they were muslims.
I would not consider Social security as communism. OTOH giving out (or even selling) stocks and shares to employees looks like communism to me -> Putting the business in the hands of the workers!!
