Maybe I'm wrong about slashdot, but I'm not sure its purpose is MS bashing.
The general (monopolistic) practice of MS is the main problem, it doesn't mean that they're unable to make a good product from time to time. Problem is even the good products are used to fulfill their "evil" plan (and then it's closed source but that's not MS specific).
But the question is will they continue to succeed at controling the market with their bad, buggy, evil-ridden products.
The question of the XBox being doomed or not doesn't depend on its hardware specs but on MS's marketing department
...Python and Perl aren't really languages that should be used for long-term stuff that requires maintenance anyway.
Well, it seems to me that zope qualifies as long-term stuff.
