I was faced with the multi-platform development problem a few years back. I utilized some tools from a company called Codefast. There was/is a book from O'Reilly where the process is described and an arcane set of the tools was included.
I found these tools and framework very useful. You can have automated builds, makefiles can be generated for "thousands" of different os/compiler environments, etc. Check them out at codefast.com
