    I am a contractor heavily invovled with the DII COE. In the recent article in Government Computer News, a concern was expressed that DISA would take the open version of Linux and tailor it to meet the needs of the DoD. That concern is unfounded. One of the fundamental tenents is that OS binaries, whether Solaris, HP-UX, or NT, are NOT modified when installing the DII COE. There is some tightening of file permissions, and the /etc/inetd.conf file is modified to disable services that are less than secure. Another point: the NT POSIX subsystem is not used by the DII COE; it's actually removed for security reasons. That is, there is already precedence for an OS that is not POSIX compliant.
