.....is that the radio signal emitted by the phone can interfere with the plane's navigation equipment.

This is one possible reason, but the REAL reason is that using a cellular phone whilst in the air totally SCREWS with the cellular network. As the signal getting back to literally tens of base stations is of the same signal strength, it totally confuses the network in the handoff of the call to the cell with the strongest signal. The excuse that it stuffs up aircraft navigation is a propogation of a beleivable lie, rather than the real reason...

  4. GPS accuracy on Blackjack: Ultra-Accurate GPS Measurement · · Score: 1
The signal from the satellites used to be accurate to within 100M. This was always the intended design by the US military. When they go to war, the actually "turn off" the noise so that GPS signals are accurate to within 1 M.
I have a feeling that after the last skirmish, that the noise has not been turned back on.

anyone who actually knows want to comment?

100M is generally "good enough" for the average joe in his boat, who uses GPS as an aid to visual navigation. Hell it is even good enough to assist in flying an aircraft.

After all, the GPS system was originally developed for the Military and was never meant to be able to be used to navigate your car between tall buildings in a city (Hell, You would more than likely loose the sat signal while trying to use it for this purpose anyway, let alone the bullshit of winning blackjack :-) )

KDE is used on more the 70% of all Linux desktops. We could fight for those remaining 30% but given that Linux has less than 5% of the overall desktop market we should rather target the 95% of desktop users than compete with our friends from the GNOME project. Just converting 5% of Windows users will get us more KDE users than converting all GNOME users

Do I see a poll coming up....

On all my linux/FreeBSD boxen the desktop of choice is KDE. On the rest of my linux machines the command line rules supreme.

So I say that they should both keep going for it! and as long as they also keep churning out slightly slower chips at cheaper prices, I can still have a reasonabley fast machine for peanuts....

To state a point, I am Still using a k6/200 processor in a machine, simply because it is still faster than anything I need it to do. The gam3rz keep bloating hardware requirements so that people who want a fast server can, at a much cheaper price

If the attack cannot originate, then there is no attack.

Ok, if someone does not care about being identified, then they would do it from an 0wn3d host, but there would be a better chance of the "problem" being fixed if the addresses getting in/out of a network are a known commodity......

IMO Redhad(sic!) only ever had (has) one purpose. That is simply to get people to dump windows and give Linux a try. Then, with any luck they will soon see it is far better than The other OS, and then also see the shortcomings of Redhad and change to a different distro.

While my personal choice is Slakware {Ain't it strage how it was one of the first to be a distro that is still doing it, Must be doing something right by a lot of people), There are lots of good distro theat didn't even get a look in in these attempt at stats.

It is simply a matter of reading all of them along with other documentation, and making an informed decision of what you want to allow the world to do to your box.

Of course you disable all the services not needed, or chose a distro that has a minimum number of services by default

{flamebait} If you want ease of install and ease of being 0wn3d, then do an everything install of any Redhat Release. By default, there are more open holes than a whores convention. (Most other distro's have WAY too many open ports as well) We should not kid ourselves, there are a lot of redhat boxes that are really easilyhad.

If you are online 24/7 then you of course should be a little paranoid, or learn to re-install every other day......
