  1. Re:The mandatory question for all stupid americans on Nobel Prizes · · Score: 1

A strange irony about Nobel that I thought I'd add on because it's interesting...

He wanted to bring about world peace by inventing a bomb powerful enough that nobody would ever go to war.
Not too far off from what really happened....
now we have "conflicts" and "disturbances"

  2. Re:Pics on Jupiter As From Cassini · · Score: 1

    Actually...
Jupiter is male, but is not the god of war. Mars is the god of war. Jupiter was the king of gods. Also commonly known as Zeus, by his Greek name (the names that the planets have are the Roman names of gods that were Greek in origin).

  3. Re:Warming? Or cooling??? on Slashback: Titanium, Art, Israel · · Score: 1

Actually it has been theorized that global warming may eventually cause the system to then go in the opposite direction and cool significantly. I can't explain the technical details of this but I believe the idea is that warming adds water vapor to the air (kind of like venus) which reflects heat and eventually causes a dip into coldness.
I don't know enough about this to agree or disagree but I know it's something I've read/heard about.

The whole idea isn't that things are constructed for the purpose of proliferation, but that things that do proliferate are the ones that are still around and therefore continue to proliferate. Proliferation is rewarded with continued existence and...proliferation.

There is also nothing that says it needs DNA, it just needs to be a pattern that somehow promotes its own replication/proliferation.

Wow, lots of proliferates. The word must've planted itself in my mind in a way that caused it to proliferate...nevermind.
