Also, many games respond differently at different frame rates.
For example, in Quake1 you could swim faster with higher framerate.
In fact, all the Quake games (and games based on the Quake engine) have had features like this. The latest Q3 patch does quite a good job of fixing it. Thanks
I had the same problem, however a newer version has since been released - called oggenc rather than ogglame and this works correctly for me.
Still can't change details in Winamp but that is a plugin functionality thing rather than an ogg problem.
The only downer, for me, is that playback takes about 10%-15% processor time - my computer: Celeron 300a@450, W2K. OGG bitrate: VBR based around 192kbits. This is just enough of a hit to make Quake3 jerky:(
missed one:
[http://www.smartin-designs.com/] Huge hosts file (currently 9326 entries), includes some stuff which isn't directly ad related - you may want to edit it before use.
[http://www.idcide.com] - an add-on for IE (not 5.5, yet) which informs you if the site you are visiting uses a tracking network. Also prevents cookies leaving your computer. Warning: this program sometimes causes IE to crash when I close the IE window. Nothing else crashes, and it's never crashed when actually in use. There should be a version for IE 5.5 and Netscape soon.

Try naviscope [http://www.naviscope.com] for a Windows filter. It's the best I've found by some distance.
It can also, optionally, filter cookies, java, popups as well as improving privacy (blocks system info, referrer info). It also does handy stuff like keep your system clock accurate.
You can set up different filtering options for different sites very easily.
Best of all, free to use.
Another good method to block irritating advertisers is using the hosts file, though this can cause slow timeout problems with Netscape.
I can't comment on paid distributed computing, but I can vouch for alladvantage paid ads. Not a large check [in fact, they changed their rewards recently to make them lower:(]
The best thing is that you can easily filter out the ads with a proxy. Money wants to be free:)
If he can boot Windows to play D2 then he can boot Windows to view QT files. This is the point Rombuu was making. Why does he deny himself the functionality he obviously craves?
It is a strange case of double-standards.
I was using Gnome/KDE as a general example (not just ports of games, so I was going off-topic), rather than a specific thing - but point taken.
Blizzard certainly could withstand poor sales, but why should they? They are a business, after all. It makes good business sense to let someone else be the pioneer and prove the platform viable. Though you could argue for Loki being the pioneers.
Free versions: Freecraft.
There are also open 3D engines being produced. There is no lack of talent amongst OSS coders, occasional lack of direction admittedly.
Zealots: It seems that I'm taking a more extreme viewpoint of zealotry than you here. A non-zealot wouldn't have a problem dual-booting and playing the Windows versions (impoverised students excepted). A zealot will complain that the Linux version is released months after the Windows version. They'll complain that it doesn't run as fast, that their mouse isn't as smooth, any whiny point they can. The more extreme ones will complain about potential security holes and/or bugs which they can't fix without the source. Why should Blizzard put up with any nonsense?
Scared of poor sales?
Yes.
Scared that the profits won't cover porting costs?
Yes.
Scared that someone will only code a 'free' version anyway - which most users will go for, thereby making all their effort a waste of time?
Yes.
Scared of supporting all the different distros? Scared to choose between KDE and Gnome? Scared of the zealots whom they can never satisfy, no matter what they do?
Yes.
Well, it would appear that I have been 0wn3d:(
Kudos, to you, good sir. Your powers are mighty and your spelling better even than that of the Slashdot editors.
Thank you for showing me the error of my ways.
Alas, the patent system is so fucked up that even the concept of 'Hooha Man' is no longer in the public domain.
I realise now that I was foolish to think that I could get away with using this name. I reckoned without the unstoppable force that is the Anonymous Coward horde. Fair play, the game is up.
Look at it from a different angle: How could a judge justify fining more than $1million, considering the details of this case?
The fine amounts to a slap on the wrist, which is exactly right for this particular situation.
If there was a similar fine in the anti-trust case then there would be a problem.

A decent proxy should be able to tell you the actual URL being downloaded. Alternatively, most download managers work 'through' the cgi.
I can do this under Windows at least. Dunno about under Linux, but it must be possible - Linux r0x.
