Well actually we would be better off to let the market handle all of those other things you mentioned too....
I think I'd rather have my tax dollars go to the NSA, than all that edutainment multicultural valueless crap they show on PBS to brainwash little kids.
You can even make a case for some of the things you mentioned in your message, but only in the US would we suggest it is the governments job to sure that people are entertained.
PBS is an anachronism these days, since you can get the same types of programming over a number of widely available channels (Discovery, A&E, etc..) PBS was created to broadcast these types of programs and other things that "commercial" networks wouldn't touch. With the advent of cable and satellite we have seen that there is very little that commercial interests won't broadcast. This seems like a last desparate gasp of a dying system to try to draw attention to itself.
Uh... will anyone please explain why the Sith Lord and Trade Federation risk everything to capture a teeny periphery planet? Can we have a clue why Naboo was important -- any hint at all? Hello?
Naboo isn't important!!!!!! The whole thing was a diversion so that Palpatine can further his political ambitions. The trade federation were a bunch of stooges. Qui-Gon actually says something in the movie about how insignificant Naboo is in the scheme of things, but no one seems to remember that in the movie after be becomes one with the force.
Yes everyone who disagrees with you must be a paid employee of MS. Makes the world a much less threatening place to think you are always right, doesn't it? Or are you just not bright enough to think that there are people out there with different opinions?
In NT is so unstable (someone else in this thread said they could crash it by just manipulating the UI) tell me a guaranteed series of steps to crash it...
MCI stands for 'Microwave Communication, Inc.'; they got their start doing point-to-point CB-like service, I believe, and then branched out into long distance.
To nitpick, the MCI in MCI Worldcom no longer stands for anything, much like AT&T doesn't stand for anyhting anymore....
Actually everyone owes MCI a great deal of gratitude for suing AT&T many times during the late 60s and 70's which eventually led up to the decision to break up the AT&T telecom monopoly. Can you imagine the state of US telecom if the market consisted of just AT&T, GTE and the few very small local operations that never were bought up by AT&T?

Open GL Chrome Real Audio MS Audio Player Quicktime MS Audio Player Java MS Jave w/ActiveX
Wouldn't Open GL / DirectX be a better comparison? Chrome was never even released so I'm not sure how fair of a compairson it to anything is.
As for the RA, QT, and Java, none of those are open standards, so what's the difference??? RA is whatever Real says it is, QT is whatever Apple says it is, and Java is whatever Sun says it is.
Many of us will know the difference, but many, many more will not. What we need to do is be able to educate developers on what the word "Standards" means
Oh, could you point me to a copy of the ANSI Perl standard? The ISO Perl standard?

I guess I missed that part of the Constitution that promised everyone Life, Liberty, and Free Quality Television Programming.

You know, I think the average AC could use a 5.25" floppy for the mind upload thing...

Price Waterhouse merged with Coopers & Lybrand, and Lybrand got screwed in the deal for somreason.
