From the article - "Some of the best and most experienced engineers in the world are working on this," says Samit of EMI. "It's near and dear to our hearts to get this right."
I think he misspelled "wallets" as "hearts." Geez, how could that have ever happened by a well-informed, educated company man??;-p
make this company go? Not everyone is as technically inclined as slashdot readers are and therefore are going to need tech support, install support, etc. Since having a recognized presence in the field (RedHat, SuSe, Corel, etc.) only increases knowledge and awareness of how good Linux (or any product) is, why not put some money into a company that is making strides in the right direction and is carrying the banner of Linux before them? Let us say 50,000 people peruse slashdot on a daily basis. If each of those people bought only 4 shares (at US$6.00) of the outstanding 161 million there would be an influx of 1.2million dollars. Pick up a copy of 6.2 or 7.0 and give it to a friend you wish to convert and help RedHat with even more positive cash flow.
A positive example of Linux marketability, stability, and recources to show the corporate infrastructure who seem to be locked into the old ways - IBM being a vocal exception. Wouldn't it be nice to see a lot less BSOD, more functionality, and Linux in even more markets?
*shrug* Maybe I'm just ranting and dreaming, but I buy shares of RedHat just in case;-)
I fully agree with this statement: "There will always be an underground for this stuff."
Although this next quote was on a different subject (sort of, Tipper Gore and the PMRC '-p), I think it applies here now:
Ice-T
From the album "Home Invasion"
Ban me, try it
You might cause a riot
What the radio won't play
The underground will supply it
I'm an 'MC' pirate that's loud, not quiet
Radical as they make 'em, make a rule I'll defy it
Critics may say I'm wise
Some may call my words lies
I've lived more in one day than they will in their lives
Cops hate kids and kids hate cops
Cops kill kids with warning shots
What is crime and what is not?
What is justice I think I forgot?...
No matter what technology is created, there will always be a way around it. No matter what laws are made, when they are stupid and made out of greed it will merely force the law-abiding citizen to choose freedom(s) vs. conformity and comfort. Personally, I hope the majority of people are non-conformists and free thinkers...
