I used to work at a site where we put in 3 of these suckers. They are fun. Training is 1 week assuming you already are a experienced solaris guy and lets not kid around what company would put a newbie incharge of one of these and the type of app they must have to need one. In our case we were pressed for time and Sun came through with 3 machines (116 CPUs across 22 domains) setup and ready to load apps in 2 months and six days after order placed. One thing not mentioned that so far is the IDN (interdomain network). It looks like like a regular ethernet port to Solaris but goes! 125MB/s.

After all it would ecncourage the competition that everyone says is already happening. After file file/protocols are freely available how could anyone establish a monopoly except through ACTUALLY giving the customer an excellent product at a fair price. There'd be no way to lock customers in once interoperability was guaranteed by law.

Tell me I'm too much of a geek but would it be too simple for Congress to establish a law that says any site that offers what would be considered adult content (and spell that out) has to be part of a new domain ".xxx"? Next a fine for any site that didn't follow and a simple password switch to enable this domain in browsers. No need for lists of sites to block. Simple to enforce with a website, for people who want to, to report offenders. No more ISPs gettting completely blocked due to one site hosted there.

Why does this have to be complicated?

Someone please tell me I'm either brilliant or out to lunch.

Let me get this straight. They expect met to crack their software (read beta test) as mdillion says so they can make it better. And what do I get? Hmm recognition? Free software? Paid? Access to the source? Or do I just spend my time on their product because they dared me? I'll hold out for the double-dare.

Boy where do I sign up. Can I pay to do this too?

I personally have 2 signifigant old bits of iron that I refuse to part with....a TRS-80 Model 100 (the original laptop) including the basically unknown Disk/Video interface (the original docking station) and the first real PC network made up of an Apple //e, Apple ][+, Apple clone (there's nothing like burning roms to make you feel a hacker) all connected to a Corvus OmniNet with a whopping 125 MB hardrive.

Anyone else have a OmniNet? Need Software? Drop me a note.
