Hard to find a turntable to play old 45, 78, and 33 records. Getting harder to find cassette players. Many new PCs don't come with floppy drives. In 30 years, will you still be able to find a CD-ROM/DVD drive or will there be some other format? Don't throw away your old PC.

Well never mind, it appears HP has already taken over the Alpha server line from Compaq. This is already a reality. Too bad Apple didn't buy DEC instead of Compaq. Let the RISC vs. CISC debate continue.....

How about if HP starts using the DEC/Compaq Alpha CPUs in their server line? Could run Linux or use the x86 emulator and run PC software on them? Is Compaq still selling Alpha based servers?

Obviously, you have not been paying attention to what IBM has been doing. IBM has a version of Linux for the S/390, RS6000, and Infinity servers. I expect to soon see Linux for their AS/400 systems. Companies that use these machines may have huge databases. I know from experience in a financial institution, where we had databases of 5GB+. You need to be more open minded. Linux is gearing up to be a capable enterprise solution. It is a waste of time to compete with Windows 9x/ME. These are not good stable OSes for the corporate world. The fact that IBM even considered, let alone developed Linux for the S/390, shows that Linux is no longer just a science project. It is here and it is now. Now Linux should work on some better administrative tools. There are some good ones out, such as webmin, but more are needed.

What about usability? Until version 4.01 SP1, IE was very unstable. I mainly used Netscape, but found occasion to use IE 3.02 for certain web sites. IE 5 and subsequent releases have not caused the major headaches of earlier versions, but still has serious problems. The ftp browser is a nice feature, which allows drag and drop, but often fails or gets hung up. IE itself, gives up too soon on webpages. These are the reasons why I still use Netscape as my primary browser. Netscape generally loads pages faster and waits longer for the server to respond and load pages.
