  1. Re:Here is something useful on One Processor, 128 32-bit Cores · · Score: 1
Interesting idea. However, it is not at all clear that the system will be a commercial success. Many algorithms that are great for serial processors will be suboptimal on a massively parallel system.

What the company needs to do, IMHO, is find a way to smooth the programming interface so that people don't have to learn obscure propriety languages to have a usable compiler. If a mainframe can make multiple processors look like a single one to a programmer, maybe they can too!

As for process and clock speed, their low specs are sensible. It is much easier to fab a processor with low specs. The advantage this thing has should come from its massive parallelism, not from trying to beat Intel and AMD at their own game.

Now for the obligatory idiotic comment: IMAGINE a BEOWULF cluster of THESE!!!

NO species, not mammals, not reptiles, etc. can tolerate large amounts of inbreeding.

It results in freaks because it destroys the original purpose of the sexual system which is to normalize genetic traits. By definition, an inbred animal is an abnormal one.

This has NOTHING to do with whether apes have "better" genes, etc. We are not subject to different genetic rules than the rest of the world.

  5. Re:MFC is worthless on Porting From MFC To GTK · · Score: 1

MFC sucks. Why bother with it? If you really need an "application framework" then write it yourself and plug in code as you need. Don't spend months on end learning how to press buttons in somebody else's clumsily written macro generator. I could write a high-level API for Win32 as easily as I could learn one. I have written a fair number of programs for MacOS using the same application framework (which I designed myself.) How many times do you need to rewrite the event handler for a click in the menu bar? People who use MFC as professional programmers are just following the company line. People who use MFC for their own projects are just stupid.

  6. Oh no! on Are We Ready For Broadband Internet Access? · · Score: 1

Yep, 56k is just TOO FAST for people to use. The routers will NEVER handle it! I mean, think, they'd have to add new routers and such! Nobody would ever do that! The internet will collapse! Stick with good old 14.4k.... Maybe we can force people to get licenses to surf, kind of like driver's licenses only much more difficult to get. Then we can really be elite! Oh wait... we're talking about broadband... well, just do a search and replace on my cogent and worthwhile comments ;)
