Have you considered using the PostgreSQL COPY function? It is about an order of magnitude faster then INSERT. The only caveat is that even COPY needs to update INDEXes if you have any, so with many indexes, you will see a more modest improvement.
You don't even need to hire Theo. Updates are free, the Abolute OpenBSD book tells you how to set up automated updates, and uless you're dumb, you'll get the best support in the world...
this story is still sad. The situation reflected in the LPR story is all but too familiar. The best coders - I should say code slingers - I new left or are leaving the industry disgusted. That would leave lousy wannabe programmers like myself around. I guess we'll have to learn to code for real or we're doomed!;-)
