  1. Don't Forget the Budget on What Does The Future Hold For Linux? · · Score: 1

I would like to think that my situation adds some import to the future of linux. I began with linux, as most do, from home. Having a love of computing, linux was the easiest and most enjoyable way to dig deeper. My interest in linux led to a job as a unix adminstrator for systems running HP-UX. Now, I am starting to integrate linux into the company. The main reason is money. I am building linux machines for non-critical necessities on PC-based hardware. This is costing very little to the company, so if there are failures, the loss is small. I'm watching linux grow and grow but will say honestly, that it still isn't up to par with a commercial UNIX system such as HP-UX, nor should one expect it to be! However, it is getting there quickly because it can co-exist with an already established network without denting the budget. As for the desktop (home-use) market, I have no idea. I have no interest in that. But for the server market, I believe that, if not linux, the ideas behind linux, will continue to flourish at the same pace it is now.
