Hahaha..So YOU'RE that service coordinator. I work part time as a service consultant and actually go to these really strange locations to install highspeed data.
I totally agree with you as to the stupidity and complexity of AOL's Highspeed service (AOL PLUS) err..Minus however you want to look at it.
The problems with AOL DSL.
1. People don't know how to install DSL filters on all their lines properly. 2. AOL Software requires more than the minimum system requirements before it will play nice 3. More than half of the houses trying to upgrade to AOL Plus in my area (BOSTON) have copper that is over 20 years old! (Last week I went to one place, had to crawl through a rat infested attic, and try to rewire a old 1968 NID!) Oh yeah...like DSL will really run on homes like that. 4. Because DSL in most areas have no 1 company responsible for the whole installation, too much finger pointing goes on. I'll go in, do the installation, and get "no sync" on the modem. Oh, okay, it's verizon's problem. No wait, after a week, verizon says...it's the customer's problem...but then, the customer doesn't know a thing about DSL and calls back AOL saying verizon told them it's AOL's problem...and I get sent back to the same house to address the same issue that I already identified! 5. (Sorry if this seems like a rant, but is to some extent.) Lastly, (not to be mean to some subscribers), AOL's market in general isn't exactly "high-end". Most people that use AOL have stacks of the "Get 100 Hours Free!" CDs and they just re-activate every month. I'm sorry, but you cannot do business like this under any circumstances.
DOT COM Economics of customer retention just doesn't cut it. Why don't these companies have internal auditing that works? FUNDAMENTALS guys! Shame on you TimeWarner. I may expect this type of thing from AOL but a well established company with real management and an actual infrastructure?
These guns have been around for quite some time. I used to play with the old rifle and pistol versions...and there was a gatlin gun version also, but I could never afford it:(
Good fun with friends until we figured out that tying knots in the rubber bands makes em fly faster and farther...and then someone got shot in the face...OUCH!
(FYI, local office supply stores carry different weight rubber bands...go search for the best ammo!)
Well, I guess now days we all have automatic paintball guns to fill our 'shooting' needs...
I also work for a computer shop! In the past month we had about 50% of our Athlon chips come back to the store burned....this was with the "retail heatsink & fan" on mind you (we now ship them with modified thermoengine coolers). Intel chips? Only 5% returned. Also, for RMA, let me just say that AMD blows. Took us over 1 month to get a replacement Athlon, and we had to pay shipping, whereas Intel shipped us the replacement first within 2 days, and paid for the shipping of the defective part!
I think we will continue to sell a few Athlons to devoted AMD fans, but we recommend everyone to move to P3/P4 Intel Chips....
So does that mean I can go to the local library and go dl some pr0n?
Anyone realize how this device must be running FAT
on
10GB In A Linux PDA
·
· Score: 1
Fat FilesysteM!! Win98 Compatible?! Oh my...No more DV > 4GB. This is in response to those that ask about the defragmenter...you have to sacrifice lots of cool stuff like linux's journaled filesystem for Winblows compatibility. I'm also curious if this thing has a standard notebook HDD in it. If so 30GB could be a nice upgrade to it. The price isn't soo bad when you compare it to other USB/Firewire HDD devices because of the extra functionality. If it were running a fast enough low power processor it would be cool to use this as a base for a VR system too. (VGA out / Stereo out / Wireless capability)...Sounds very interesting....
Umm..correct me if I'm wrong but don't we have some anti-satellite Dept of Defense weapons? I say we test our technology (lasers, missiles, BFG9000, whatever...) and use this space junk for target practice! And hey, if it works, maybe the government can actually clean up space rather than just "tracking" the bilions of pieces of space trash. Okay, I'll admit, as a college student we just let our trash sit there growing flies and fungus, but if I had a missile I wouldn't hesitate to blow it up!
On another note...sure they say that the MIR sattelite is gonna land safely out in the Pacific...but I live right smack in the middle of the Pacific! And I don't wanna die from a stupid old space station falling from the sky; especially when we could have blown it up during New Years celebration... to usher in the new Millenium and possibly the completion of most of the ISS.
Well, I guess it gives us a good excuse to test our fall-out shelters and air-raid sirens.

I like the space ghost picture... btw, is that copyright infringement to use him?

Have you ever been to a MIT Frathouse? Even "chicks" dig em.
