  1. Let's Linux buy SCO on SCO Wants $699 for Linux Systems · · Score: 1

Instead of throwing such money through windows, why not federating every buyers in a common fund and buy this company and definitely close the case.

Linux would finally be a true Unix having bought the license's owner.

  2. SMP & MT Progress on FreeBSD 5.1 Review and BSD Roundup · · Score: 5, Informative

Good objective articles despite extremetech's review is more than 8 months old now. Interested slashdot readers can look at the progress of fine grained SMP and advanced multi-threading system (KSE), two features which made me try this great operating system.

5.1 is not in the stable branch yet, but 5.2/3 show great promises.

You should of course read "However Wind River and Wasabi Systems gives a generous access to their proprietary source to some bsd developpers".

  5. License contradiction on Wind River CEO Unexpectedly Resigns · · Score: 5, Insightful

Quite sad to see Wind River in trouble ("The companyâ(TM)s revenue declined 20 percent last quarter" - Electronic News) as it decreases FreeBSD deployement among enterprises.

I don't know much about other firms using BSD (like Wasabi Systems) however it seems it's more difficult for them to sell BSD systems compared with Linux distributors.

Quite contradictoraly, BSD license is more "liberal" than Linux from the enterprise point of view which can use the code with minimal restrictions (FreeBSD License) Wind River and Wasabi Systems gives a generous access to their proprietary source to some bsd developpers)

As Linux gains momentum, I hope IT managers will see those nice BSD lurking around, using them, and helping maintaining them (like hiring developpers to work on these systems).

  6. Testsuit and benchmark on KSE Progress On FreeBSD SMP Environment · · Score: 5, Interesting

KSE seems really an interesting implementation in FreeBSD as well as the process to integrate it in the kernel/userland.

LIBMAP permits to cleanly test it on your system (5.1-RELEASE or -CURRENT) one application at a time (you redefine libraries linking per application). I've tried it with mozilla 1.4b for more than a week now without any trouble.

However I wonder about developper's testsuit and benchmarks in order to give some clues to others about how great KSE is.
