If I understand correctly it's possible in the US to have a single form which covers all sorts of elections.

But what prevent them from using 2 ballots? At least in the states where pencils are used (like in Canada, ...)
Besides, the problem here is more with the readability (by human beings) of the ballot.

Yes, sure. But think about this.
If there were more serious stories, the ratio between serious and dumb replies would be higher. I've often seen that some stories only get 10-20 posts, not more. And they don't even appear on my Slashdot homepage. I've to use "older stuff" to see them.

Yes. So the ruling should have been about the use of this information, not the process used to get them. It's a dangerous precedent (sp?) for other services that use similar practive to retrieve information (the example of search engines).

It's what I don't understand. I see this kind of incomplete story, or even poor articles, hit the homepage. But when I try to post something a bit usefull my stories are rejected.
For example my last one was yesterday, about the first genetically modified monkey borned in the US. 2 links where given, one to the BBC and one to CNN.
If this is how Slashdot works today, it's sad

    I'm afraid but it's different.
What you put on your website is public knowledge, whatever method is used to read it. It's like the said office displays a list of its client on a whiteboard outside it's facility, but only allows some people to look at it. Don't put it there in the first place if you want to restrict access to it.
If you want to protect your data, put a password.

    Why is this a problem?
Here in Belgium it's not unusual to have several ballots. One for local, one the power level above, and one national. Each one identifiable by a different color and title. You mark the box with the red pen and that's all. Why would it be difficult to have several distinctive ballots?
By the way, in Belgium voting is mandatory.

Yeah, now I can see the next trick to prohibit people from voting.
    A big power shortage.
And are supposed to do if passed the voting deadline, half of the voters hasn't vote?

When you get 1.0.31 and 1.0.4 for example? Which is greater?
In this case 1.0.31 is more recent than 1.0.4, because the separator is the dot and not the tens, hundreds, thousands... It's either this or the dot-scheme, not both.
If if where ".3 +.01", the final result would be "1.0.3.1", which is an older version then "1.0.4".

I'm connected with an ADSL modem on a Linux fw. I'm subscribed since last October and until early november I've encountered many NetBIOS scans from fellow clients of my ISP. After some investigation I've discovered that it was in fact caused by a virus/trojan named "W32/QAZ.worm" (for a description read this).
So, I will urge everyone to check their computer, mostly windoze users, for this kind of trojan. It's kind of sticky and fast breeding.
