And presumably the three sites that the article's summary links to also provided a similar service, prior to Google's announcement....I'm obviously in the minority since I bothered to read the whole summary. Its not easy to read admittedly, but the links are relativly easy to spot ;-)
According to the help / FAQ page, they are searching cvs & subversion repositories.
