Forcing life on someone who does not want it is just as bad as murder. In both cases you are claiming the power of life and death over another person. ----------
I am fortunate not to have ever worked in a "Dilbert" envirionment. The worst tech job I had, the managers understood the technology, and the executive (who didn't) knew enough to let us do our jobs without interference. Now I am working at a web development company where employees shoot each other with Nerf dart guns, people can be seen rolling down the hall on kick scooters and EVERYONE understands the technology. I think such 'promised lands' are the direct spawn of people who have been screwed by PHBs. ----------
Wouldn't you be able to create models with moving parts if one of the materials you used disintigrated or evaporated after several hours? When that part of the model is gone, the remaining parts would be free to move on their own.
I see anyone that believes in or even worse desires such a dramatic and unnecessary change as being at best a foolish idealist and at worst someone unable to accept the reality of their own existance.
I accept the reality that our existance does not have to be what we have been handed. We can reshape ourselves into anything that physics allows.
There is a very good novel that talks about this subject called Distress by Greg Egan. I highly recomend it.
with getting a universal assembler released to the public even after it is perfected.
Such a device would cause the collapse of nearly every industry on the planet (the main exception being the design industry). There are a LOT of powerful people how would stop at nothing to keep that from happening.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Researchers have already stopped, and even reversed, the aging process in tissue samples. Chances are, younger people today will still be around 2-3 hundred years hence.
you lowered the temperature of the mercury to less then 25C (freezing point of mercury) as it is spinning. It should have the exact same shape as when it was liquid. Plus, you wouldn't have to spin it after it was frozen.
In a few months, napster will be completely dead. People will only be using napster to get to servers through napigator.

I guess I'll just have to use napigator more often.

Even if transmeta really were five years ahead of Intel and AMD (which I doubt), what would that have to do with Transmeta's chronological age?
