I really hope timothy isn't getting paid for this review. Sounds like somebody was supposed to write a book report but didn't finish the whole thing and claimed that he couldn't give away the story. I give him a D- on this just because I don't want to have to teach him again next yera for him failing.
Bah, trying to lend credibility by just quoting from the prologue..
Lets hope that computer technology will never be so high that A Perfect Chess game will take place, because othervise the game of Chess won't be interesting anymore. C'mon, that's like saying tic-tac-toe isn't fun anymore. Or the box game. 8)
Wasn't it a bad thing when Microsoft decided that people needed the latest version of Explorer to access and run some of their software? Now Netscape doesn't want Mozilla to be just a browser but a set of tools - and have applications written specifically for and requiring Mozilla. I do realize that badmouthing the big 'ol opensource project is wrong, but it seems to me that they're trying to work the same kind of muscle as Microsoft was except that everybody loves Mozilla. (except for that disappointing interface)
The last I checked 2 or 3 months ago was that there weren't really any out at that point but a lot of them being developed and in production. There are some homebrew component systems that have been talked about on slashdot before, but nothing really commercially availible. I would love to get my hands on a portable one, though. 650 minutes of lovin' goodness. Just have to hope it supports high bitrates(yeah, yeah, it doesn't work out to 650 minutes then. i know).
The problem here is that libraries don't have the physical space for what the electronic format could contain. Project Gutenberg is trying to get as much information as possible into the Etext databases - a million books? more? - which is much more than a physical library can hold. It may not be a revolution, but it sure as hell is a great adjustment of what we do have.
And how often have you suffered from a book decomposing or being stolen from a library?
But, in the cosmic sense of things, does SMP support really matter? Are you making our universe a better place to live in by harboring hostility towards your fellow man? Admittedly a lot of them are idiots, but they at least are living a lifestyle that at least lets them tell themselves they are happy and ignore their hollow shells of lives. I find it amazing that there are some people who somehow deny that they have gone through any sort of teenage phase. Just because you've sold your inner child to a black market slaver doesn't mean you can treat other's inner children the same way. (hah.. defending the game junkies.. madness will ensue..) (did i really use the term 'inner child' on slashdot??)
-"If I recall, it's about a 500K download; what's winamp alone, about 2MB?"-
If I recall correctly, the normal Winamp download is about 600k, but you can get the 2 meg download to have support for windows media and mjuice formats. I've never found a reason to go for the bloat version.
C'mon, offtopic? This should at least qualify as good enough to not mark off as that. It seems to do a pretty good job of mocking the fact that Amazon decides to patent things that seem obvious and that are actually in use in many places.
Maybe bdumm is on to something? I think it's a safe bet that Amazon is going to move in on First Post technology soon and start suing anybody who infringes on that patent. Trolls beware!
It's so hard to find some of the things that are on Amazon once in a while though.. Makes it tough to hold to those boycott tendencies.
In retrospect I have to say that my post just wasn't so great. I was giddy on the prospects of first post and just ran with my first thought. In retrospect I wish that I had taken the time to find some good devo links, the Free Monkeys people, and perhaps American Science and Surplus(supplies for the devolving, eh?). But I do say that the off topic attribute must have been given by a moderator hopped up on goofballs.
>my (along w/ 1/365th (or about) of the world's >population) birthday
Just to be annoying, shouldn't you consider that births aren't uniformly distributed? I know there are some occasions and seasons which are more suited to getting it on than others..

Neither is Internet Explorer.
