It is only through the government that corporations have the power to threaten our freedoms. Politicians who suck up to corporations (as well as other special interest groups) and sell out our freedoms are the real culprits.
I think what's really important about the crusoe technology is not the improved battery life but the fact that code-morphing is so cool.
By ridding themselves of the hardware baggage of CISC designs, I expect that Transmeta chips will ultimately be faster and cheaper than their CISC contemporaries - as well as cooler and less power hungry.
